It’s very strong and resistant to tearing, meaning it protects your BBQ well. The double stitching provides extra strength at the seams, which are often the weakest parts of the cover. You won’t have to worry about it tearing as you put it on and take it off.
The handle is well made and strong allowing for fuss-free removal of the cover. Plus the adjustable Velcro straps are very sturdy, making it easy to adjust the cover to fit your BBQ.
This is a good BBQ cover if you’re looking to cover a relatively large unit and want something hardwearing with good adjustability. Also, it’s extremely easy to remove and pack away once the rain stops and BBQ-time is resumed!

Calish Heavy Duty Waterproof Barbecue Cover Review
The Calish Barbecue Cover is another good choice because it comes with a storage bag, is constructed with a breathable fabric, and works well to protect your BBQ from the elements!
This cover is made from heavy-duty Oxford fabric which is woven. This is good to look out for because it means the material is breathable; it stops condensation building up inside which prevents mould and rust.
It protects against water, dust, condensation and UV light – defending your BBQ from many different types of weather damage!
The included zipper storage bag makes this cover very convenient – once the weather clears and you are ready to BBQ, you are not left with a bulky cover to store. The storage bag also protects your cover from damage when it is not in use.
I think this is one of the best BBQ covers, particularly for a gas BBQ. Due to its breathability, which stops condensation build-up, as trapped moisture can damage gas or electric BBQs.
Things to Know Before Buying a BBQ Cover
BBQs are heavy pieces of equipment; therefore, moving them under shelter every time the weather turns isn’t always practical. However, leaving them out in the rain also isn’t an option, as they can quickly become damaged by the weather.
So, what can be done? If you have a large gas or charcoal BBQ in your garden, a protective cover is a must-have. This cover will keep your BBQ safe from the elements – elongating its lifespan, removing the necessity to move it under shelter, and ensuring that you don’t have a bunch of leaves to remove next time you want to fire up the barbie!
There are a range of BBQ covers on the market, and it can be tricky to sort the wheat from the chaff. The following tips will help you make an informed decision so you can find the best BBQ cover to protect your grill!
Protective covers are available in a range of materials.
PVC-coated covers are a great choice as they are light and waterproof. Any fabric which has been coated with PVC will offer at least some protection from the elements.
Polyester covers are frequently used for BBQs. These are often made out of PVC-coated polyester. Not only does PVC-coated polyester offer great weather resistance, the polyester is also very robust and can protect your barbecue against knocks and scratches.
You may find that some fabrics are coated with PU (polyurethane) instead of PVC. This is also waterproof, but has less layers than PVC and may not be as hardy. It is not as stiff as PVC and may not hold its shape as well. PU-coated fabric are breathable which can help prevent moisture build-up and mould.
Nylon covers are weatherproof and dust-proof. They are lightweight, easy to maintain, and very durable.
Finally, there’s Oxford fabric, which is an excellent choice and very popular within the world of BBQ covers. It’s tear-proof and extremely durable. Plus, it’s resistant to UV and tends to be very breathable thanks to its woven nature.
A cover that’s too small will be extremely difficult to fit to your BBQ, while the wind will get underneath a cover that’s too large.
Of course, the first port of call is to measure your BBQ. Make sure to slightly round up any measurements, instead of rounding them down. You need to make sure the cover will definitely fit over the BBQ after all! Once you’ve measured the width, height, and depth of your BBQ you’ll have a much better idea of which cover to choose.
It’s unlikely that you’ll find a cover that fits your BBQ exactly right, but it’s ok if it’s a little larger than the unit. This is why most are equipped with features to help adjust the fit.
I highly recommend looking for a cover with Velcro or elasticated straps. Both of these options will help ensure the cover fits snugly around your BBQ. This will also protect the cover from blowing off in the wind.
If a cover has an elasticated bottom, with a pull-cord for adjustability, it can be cinched in to fit almost any size of BBQ.
Of course, the main reason you purchase a BBQ cover is to protect your investment from the elements.
These are the things to look out for:
- Waterproof material – protecting your BBQ from rain. Moisture can cause rust and mould.
- UV resistance – damage from the sun can slowly chip away at even the most strongly constructed BBQ. UV damage causes material to get brittle and paint to peel. If the cover is UV resistant it will also not get damaged by the sun’s rays so it ca keep protecting you BBQ for longer.
- Elasticated/Velcro straps – these will ensure a snug fit for the cover around your BBQ. As a result, moisture and water will have a harder time getting in.
- Breathability – a breathable cover will make sure that no moisture or condensation gets trapped on the inside. As mentioned, any moisture that can’t escape will likely cause issues such as rust and mould. Trapped moisture can be even more of a problem for BBQs with gas or electric elements.
- Dust-proofing – make sure that the fabric has a fine enough weave to stop dust from being able to get through the cover. Much like trapped moisture, dust can cause problems for BBQs.
Some BBQ covers are extremely heavy, which makes them very difficult to manoeuvre over large BBQs.
If you think you might struggle to manage a heavy cover, make sure to check the product specifications beforehand. You might be surprised by how much some of the covers weigh.
Some options, made of lighter fabric, are still extremely weatherproof.
However, you should also bear in mind that a lighter fabric might be more likely to get blown around in high winds and won’t protect as well against knocks and bumps.
BBQ Cover FAQs
Choose a cover that is at least 5 cm larger in size than your BBQ dimensions. If your BBQ cover is a little too large, elasticated or Velcro straps will help you to adjust the fit.
Too large is always better than too small, as you will struggle to put a small cover onto a larger barbecue.
Don’t cover the BBQ when it’s hot. This will be a fire hazard for any number of reasons. Plus, as covers are rarely heat resistant, they may melt onto the barbecue! Instead, wait for your BBQ to cool completely before putting on the cover.
By preventing water and dirt from getting into the BBQ, a cover can very effectively prevent rust. It’s important your BBQ is fully dry before you put on the cover, and that the cover has good breathability.
While you can use tarpaulin as a BBQ cover, it may not be very effective. It can be far harder to fit tarpaulin snugly to your BBQ. As a result, moisture will likely get in, plus you may find it gets blown off easily.
