Yaheetech Rattan Swinging Egg Chair Review
The importance of having a sturdy hanging chair can’t be underrated – undeniably, there’s nothing less relaxing than sitting in a chair that doesn’t feel supportive. The Yaheetech Rattan Swing Egg Chair not only feels strong and steady, it also has a large maximum weight limit of 150 kg, so the numbers speak for themselves.
Made from PE plastic, formed into an attractive black-wicker weave, it’s actually suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. The powder-steel frame isn’t prone to rust, so it’s really a case of choosing where it looks best – be that on the patio, balcony, or in the conservatory – as opposed to being constrained to a sheltered area only.
Thanks to these construction materials, it’s also really low maintenance. The most it will need is a bit of a hose down after the winter, to freshen it up for the summer months.
It comes with a comfortable white cushion that fits well into the egg dome, shaped like an armchair. The only downside to this cushion is the fact that the white colour can get a little grubby after a while, especially with children or pets around, but it can be washed to keep it looking fresh.
Whilst a dust cover for the chair comes included, it’s not waterproof, so if you have the chair outside it’s also recommended to take the cushions off when not in use. This does slightly negate the benefit of having a cover, but it can still be used to stop the domed seating area from getting too dusty.
There’s also the possibility to adjust the hanging height of the chair, by changing the length of the chain, so you can have it closer to the ground if you prefer. Depending on whether you’re a family of adults, or there are kids present too, this can help make the chair more family friendly.
The egg basket has a maximum width of 98 cm, whilst the supportive base measures 94.5 cm and the overall unit height is 196 cm. You certainly need to make sure there’s enough space to accommodate this chair, so that it doesn’t bump into walls or obstacles, but there’s no reason that it can’t fit into the corner of a patio or living room.
- Arrives in just 3 parts; the base, the stand and hanging chair which makes assembly very easy
- Suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, and won’t fade in strong sunlight
- Strong enough for heavier users with a 150 kg weight capacity
- Arrives in a large box which may have to be taken apart outside to get through smaller doorways
- A lot of plastic wrapping on each piece which isn’t eco-friendly
- The cover cannot only covers the chair, not the frame, and is not waterproof
- While the included cushion is comfortable, it’s not the best quality
Dawsons Living Vienna Hanging Rattan Egg Chair Review
Why get an egg chair that can only fit one person, when you could get one that fits two? The Dawsons Living Vienna Hanging Rattan Egg Chair is quite unusual in this regard; instead of having that classic closed egg shape, it’s stretched out into more of an oval, creating enough space for two people.
Whilst this is obviously one of the best hanging rattan egg chairs for couples, it’s also a great option for anyone looking for a bit more space to spread out. Whereas most standard egg chairs enforce a relatively upright posture, this particular style allows for a touch more horizontal lounging.
The padded cushions come included, but they are removable so you can position them how you like in the chair. There are also detachable head pillows, which can be tied to the back or left off, depending on how you’re sitting.
It’s also slightly easier to get out of than some hanging egg chairs, as the opening is more level so there’s less of an edge to need to get over.
The black PE rattan structure is low maintenance and can be left outside without suffering any ill effects – it won’t fade in sunlight either, so you don’t need to worry about it starting to look tatty after a couple of summers.
Of course, being a double chair, it’s larger than more traditional ‘single egg’ models, which requires a bit more thought when it comes to finding where to put it; it measures 195 cm high and is 138 cm wide, with a depth of 95 cm. Outside on the patio or lawn this shouldn’t cause too many problems, but inside you’ll need a fair amount of available room to house this double seater.
Whilst the frame measurements are set, it’s possible to adjust the chair height by about 10 cm. This is done by changing the length of the chain, and it therefore it’s adjustable to be suitable for most users. In terms of maximum weight capacity, it can handle up to 240 kg, remaining steady on its large metal base.
It doesn’t swing, but rocks gently, which might be a selling point for some and off putting for others. The movement is gentle and subtle, enough to lull you into a gentle nap without prompting motion sickness!
- Height of the chair is adjustable and very easy to change
- The compact design makes it suitable for small patios and balconies
- Comfortably seats 2, with a high 240kg weight capacity
- Sturdy even in very strong winds
- No cover included, so a cover will need to be purchased separately if you plan on leaving your chair outside
- Doesn’t swing, more like a gentle rocking
- Although assembly is relatively easy, it does require 2 people
Chair Hanging Rattan Swing Egg Chair Review
If you’re slightly tight on space, but can’t bear to drop the idea of having a hanging chair, this Hanging Rattan Swing Egg Chair from Chair might just fit where others won’t.
The base and the chair itself both share the same dimensions of 94.5 cm; as a result, there is no overhang which is what can sometimes catch people out when trying to find space for one of these hanging chairs.
Not only is it one of the best hanging rattan egg chairs for slightly smaller spaces, it’s also straight forward to put together, coming in just three separate parts which go together quickly and don’t have to stay spread out across the floor for long.
Like the other chairs featured on this list, it is made from PE rattan with a rust-resistant base, so whether you choose to put it inside or outside there won’t be any negative consequences and, in fact, you can even more it between the patio and conservatory depending on the weather.
The included cushion is large and comfortable, filling a good amount of the rattan egg so that you don’t find yourself leaning against any hard surfaces. Its beige colour is also slightly more practical than the white cushions provided with other chairs, as it is more forgiving when it comes to daily wear and dirt.
Unfortunately, the chair doesn’t come with a cover, so there’s no way to protect it from dust outside, and the best tactic is therefore to take the cushions off when not in use. Apart from this though, there’s very little maintenance required.
With a height of 122 cm inside the egg itself, this model is quite roomy and suitable for people of most heights. However, its weight limit is lower than other models, at 100 kg, which is worth bearing in mind.
- Included cushions are very good quality
- Very easy to assemble
- The large size is perfect for taller users
- Some users have reported the chair creaking as it swings
- Lower weight capacity than others on the market at 100 kg
- Arrives as 2 separate deliveries
- No cover included, so you will need to purchase a cover separately if you plan on leaving your chair outside
Harrier Hanging Rattan Egg Chair Swing Review
One of the best things about egg chairs is how extremely cosy they feel, and the Harrier Hanging Rattan Egg Chair Swing is no exception. It has an extremely padded cushion that fits perfectly into the cocoon, plus very little assembly is required – creating a comfortable spot to curl up in with a good book has rarely been easier.
The white cushion complements the black PE rattan egg, creating a chair that looks contemporary and stylish; it’s the sort of item that could easily grace the pages of design magazines without looking out of place. Whether these would be interior or exterior design magazines is up to you: this chair can be placed both indoors or out, with its zinc-plated steel frame helping it stay rust free.
You can purchase a fitted waterproof cover separately, but no cover comes included with the initial purchase which is a little disappointing for the price; however, as mentioned, it does stand up well to most weather and the PE rattan is both UV and frost resistant.
Whilst the hanging height isn’t adjustable, it’s generally quite well suited to users of different heights. The inside dimensions of the chair are 110 cm high by 70 cm wide and 90 cm deep which creates a roomy place to sit.
As is often the case with these egg chairs, it’s worth taking the above measurements into account before committing to the purchase. Some houses with smaller door frames may struggle to get the 110 cm-wide egg in from the driveway, which can result in a lot of disappointment if there’s no way to get it into the house.
- Very comfortable for users of all heights
- The PE rattan is resistant to UV and won't fade if left in the sun
- High 160 kg weight capacity suitable for heavier users
- A custom-fitting waterproof cover can be purchased separately for further protection from the elements
- Needs to be unpacked to fit through most standard doorways
- The height of the chair isn’t adjustable, unlike others on the market
- Bulky construction so not suitable for smaller areas
Yaheetech White Hanging Rattan Egg Chair Review
For a hanging chair that is easy to manage in every sense, the Yaheetech Hanging Rattan Swing Chair is a cinch to clean, simple to prepare, and light enough to move around the garden.
Made from white PE rattan, it’s actually the only light-coloured chair featured on this list, but if you’re worried about keeping it clean there’s an easy solution!
The egg is completely waterproof and can easily be hosed down if it starts looking a little grubby, plus it comes with a cover that effectively helps keeps the worst of the dirt off.
It only weighs 16.6 kg which makes it one of the lighter options available; great news for those who might want to move it around the garden to chase the sun.
Whilst the light weight does make it a lot more practical in this regard, it might be necessary to bring the chair inside, especially in windy weather, to make sure it doesn’t get damaged.
The seat cushion is also slightly easier to manage – consisting of one thickly padded quilt which curves to fit the egg shape – as opposed to bulkier cushions with armrests that are harder to store.
Whilst light, it’s not particularly small, measuring 196 cm tall by 96 cm wide. As a result, this may not be the best hanging rattan egg chair for smaller areas – placing it under an awning or canopy requires a bit of thoughtful placement due to its height.
The length of the hanging chain, and therefore the height of the chair itself, can be altered by changing which link is placed over the hook on the stand.
Given that the chain is 24 cm in total, you have quite a few links to choose from to find your preferred hanging height.
- Very comfortable even for taller users
- Assembly takes less than 10 minutes
- Very easy to clean and maintain
- Relatively lightweight so can be moved around the garden to sunnier spots!
- Lower weight capacity than others on the market at 120kgs
- No protective feet on the stand so could mark very delicate flooring
- Not particularly durable if left outside - better for indoor use
Things to Know Before Buying a Hanging Rattan Egg Chair
Rattan egg chairs are a timelessly stylish addition to any garden.
With a gentle swing, a comfortable cushion and a sturdy base, they offer the perfect spot to sit and enjoy your morning coffee or an evening G&T – ideal!
These chairs are great for small spaces; compact enough to nestle into a small corner of your garden or balcony. The best hanging rattan egg chair will be weather resistant and able to be left outside year-round.
Not sure what to look for when it comes to these awesome chairs? These handy pointers will help you make an informed decision:
Your hanging egg chair can be as wacky or as understated as you like.
If you have a traditional or minimalist garden, you may choose to opt for natural colours and materials. These tend to look quite understated yet stylish, and won’t be an undesired focal point in the garden.
If you’re after something a bit louder, rattan egg chairs also come in vibrant patterns, bold colours, and more unique shapes. This could be an excellent option if you’re looking for a great place to sit and also want to make a bright statement.
The weave pattern can differ from chair to chair, some are more of a classic weave whereas others may have a lattice or other pattern. Ultimately this comes down to personal preference, but do keep an eye on how flat the weave is – it can be uncomfortable if it is too raised and digs in.
Finally, you will notice that some egg chairs are more enclosed than others. This is something to bear in mind as you look for the best rattan egg chair for your garden, patio or balcony – you may wish to be hidden away or be able to be a bit more sociable!
Egg chairs are usually built to accommodate 1 or 2 people.
If you have a larger garden, a bigger egg chair will look great. Plus, you’ll have the luxury of buying a 2-person chair if that’s something you’re interested in.
If you’ve only got a small space like a patio or balcony, you’ll want something more compact so that it can tuck into a corner. If you’re limited on space, take some measurements before making your purchase, and check them against the product specifications.
Egg chairs are extremely relaxing, but they may not be as relaxing if you’re tearing your hair out trying to work out how to fit it on the balcony!
The rattan used to make garden furniture is often made of PE plastic. This helps it be weather resistant and low maintenance.
This ‘rattan’ generally makes up the body of the egg chair, while steel is most often used for the base. These are both very durable and generally weather resistant, although you will need to keep an eye out for rust.
PE rattan is easy to wipe clean, but if your chair comes with cushions ensure the covers are machine washable – especially if you have kids!
Weight capacity is something to cast an eye over when buying a hanging chair. If you’re heavier than average, or you’re wanting to sit with someone else, it’s an important consideration.
Good quality rattan chairs will hold around 100 kg. While this will seat most adults, it is unlikely to last if you regularly have more than 2 people sitting on it.
If you’re heavier than average, look for one with a higher weight capacity. Bear in mind that if you are at the top end of the weight capacity, your chair may not last so long.
Most rattan chairs are very easy to assemble, often with just a couple of parts needing to be slotted together. If you’re not confident at DIY, look for a swing chair that either arrives fully assembled or is specifically designed for easy assembly.
A helpful tip: sometimes the smaller fittings arrive tucked into one of the tubes – so if you can’t find them straight away that may be where they are!
Hanging Rattan Egg Chair FAQs
Depending on the model, hanging chairs can generally hold 100 – 150 kg. This does vary between models though, so it’s a good idea to check the manufacturer’s specifications. Bear in mind, if the chair often has to bear a load cose to its maximum weight capacity, it may not last as long.
Natural rattan is an organic material. As a result, it isn’t very durable unless regularly treated. PE rattan makes a much better alternative for garden furniture because it looks good, is very durable, and is easy to take care of. It also won’t fade in sunlight.
Hanging chairs which come with stands are a lot easier to assemble and start using straight away. You can also be more assured of their safety because the unit and fittings have been specifically designed to bear the weight well. If you buy a hanging chair without a stand, you need to be confident in your ability to fit it safely to a beam or branch, and also know that the hanging point can take the weight.
