GardenMate 5x6m Waterproof Heavy Duty Tarpaulin Review
Supplying an impressive range of clever products to help you keep your outdoor spaces looking in ship shape, GardenMate have made what we think is one of the best tarpaulin sheets you can buy right now.
We’re probably all familiar with plastic tarps that are as strong as a carrier bag, so it’s refreshing to see such a well-made covering. The strong and durable PP/PE plastic mix makes for a superior blend, as you might expect from a German made product.
The attention to detail is what sets this apart though; the aluminium eyelets won’t rust, all the seams are double stitched, and the rubber corner protectors add strength exactly where it’s needed. Add to that the UV and mould resistance and you’ve got the best tarpaulin sheeting money can buy.

Pro-Tec Extra Heavy Duty Builders Waterproof Tarpaulin Review
Specialising in a huge range of coverings for everything from your chicken coop to your caravan, Bradford’s Pro-Tec have got your back when it starts to rain. It’s hard to choose the best heavy duty tarpaulin from their extensive range, but we think that the super quality waterproof ground sheet is a real contender.
At 270 grams per square metre of material, it’s by far the heaviest on the list, so it should stand up to a real beating. It comes as part of the Pro-Tec “Naturals” range, which boasts a more neutral range of colours than the standard bright blue tarp colour we’re used to.
You can flip this tarpaulin over, there’s a green side and a silver side which are both made from durable woven Polyethylene. The brass eyelets are chunky and reinforced with rubber, so they shouldn’t tear out any time soon as well. Perfect for emergency repairs to a shed roof or when you fancy going camping under the best tarpaulin sheeting.

Casa Pura Heavy Duty Waterproof Tarpaulin Review
You might recognise the name casa pura from their line of rugs and floor coverings, but they’ve also made a range of the best waterproof tarpaulin sheets at affordable prices. We got hold of one of their thick cross-laminated white tarps and took a closer look at it.
They’re available in a huge range of sizes, so you could cover just about anything you fancied with one of these, but the little features are what make this a long-lasting outdoor covering. With polyrope sewn around the seams, it’s tear resistant, and the aluminium eyelets can’t rust out on you. As you’d expect from the best tarpaulin sheets, this one is UV stabilised and mould resistant as well. It’s the kind of sheeting you can expect to see on market stalls, but you could use it wherever you want.

Soviyas Heavy Duty Tarpaulin Review
SOVIYAS are one of those brands that have turned their hands to plenty of different products, but it doesn’t mean that this isn’t one of the best waterproof tarpaulins available right now. The Soviyas Heavy Duty Tarpaulin certainly is the only one we’ve come across that’s also available with a striped pattern.
With strong woven polyethylene rather than thin plastics, it’s a tarp that’s built to last and stand up to a fair amount of punishment, even though it’s lighter than some of the coverings on our list. The corners are reinforced with rubber and the weave of the material is nice and tight.
We’re not sure if it will affect its performance over time or not, but this tarp is one sided- you can tell because the material is folded back on the edges. It’s a multi-layered polytarp so it shouldn’t make much difference though.

Trademark Supplies Heavy Duty Waterproof Tarp Cover Review
A company that specialises in tarps of all colours, Trademark Supplies have got you covered with this enormous poly tarp in bright blue standard colour. It boasts an extra strength weave that should keep it from wearing out in patches, and a thick laminated protective layer to keep it totally waterproof.
We would like to have known the precise gsm of this tarp, but it’s not stated anywhere. Even so, it’s definitely not a lightweight tarp and should stand up to weather and resist tearing over time. If you’re looking for the best tarpaulin sheets in a wide range of colours, you can’t go far wrong with this lot.
Heavy Duty Tarpaulin Buyer’s Guide
They might look similar, but not all tarpaulin sheets are made to the same levels of quality and durability. The best tarpaulin sheets make use of clever construction techniques to keep your things safe and dry outside.
Most tarpaulin sheets are made from a form of plastic called Polyethylene, which is an economical and stable material that’s perfect for weaving into useful sheets.
Individual strands on their own are tough, but when woven together and heat sealed, they create tarpaulin sheets that are resistant to the weather, UV rays, friction rubbing and stretching in any direction.
The best heavy duty tarpaulins are woven and then laminated with the strands running in different directions for extra durability This makes them 100% waterproof and even more resistant to rubbing and puncturing.
The quality of the best waterproof tarpaulins is measured in grams per metre squared, or gsm for short. The higher the number, the heavier the sheet material must be. The Pro-Tec groundsheet is the highest gsm on our list at 270 grams per square metre.
The best tarpaulins are available in an almost infinite range of sizes, because manufacturers can join single sheets together to form a larger overall size. The seams are heat treated and sealed together to make a waterproof and tear proof bond that is as strong as the rest of the sheet.
The features we look out for are rust-proof eyelets made from brass or aluminium which will keep them safe when they’re left out in the elements. And the best new development in tarpaulin technology has to be the rubber reinforced eyelet surrounds that make torn out corners a thing of the past.
If you need something covered up and protected from the elements, you need the best tarpaulin sheets for the job. Don’t bother with low quality plastic tarps that you could read a newspaper through, because the GardenMate waterproof heavy duty tarp might be the last one you’ll need to buy. The superior woven material is ultra-durable for a light tarp, and we think it’ll last for ages.
