How to replace your lawn mower oil
Replacing your lawn mower oil is a relatively simple job, and will extend the life of your mower. For a new mower, change the oil after 5 hours of use, and after that every 50 hours of operation.
To start with, you will need lawn mower oil, an oil drain pan, some old rags, a funnel and old newspapers. Start the engine and allow your mower to warm up for a minute or two, then turn off the engine and disconnect the spark plug wire.
Clean the oil and dirt from around the dipstick, then remove it. Put the drain pan underneath the mower, and unscrew the plug to allow the oil to drain from the mower. Collect all the oil and remember never to deposit it down the drain or on the ground!
Use your oil funnel to pour the new oil back into the lawn mower, making sure to pour the recommended amount without overfilling. Then wipe the dipstick clean and replace it, wiping away any spillages.
Oiling your petrol lawn mower is an easy task that’ll save you money, time and stress further down the line, but you do still need the best oil! For the handy 0.6L bottle and suitability for a range of 4 stroke lawn mower engines, the Universal SAE30 blend is the most reliable on the market.
