ArtMoon Rock Folding Heavy Duty 2 Step Ladder Review
Canada based home wear brand ArtMoon design useful gadgets and accessories to make your life easier. We took a look at their Rock 2 step folding ladder and think it’s easily one of the best step stools we’ve ever used.
The first thing we noticed out of the box was just how well it stows away. When folded down it’s only 4 cm wide, which makes it really useful around the house or even in the car boot. You can’t go wrong when you need that extra bit of height.
The two steps are equal in size, so you don’t have an annoying half step to negotiate on the way up. They’re nicely rubberised with a non-slip texture, and the plastic foot caps won’t scratch your wooden floor.
Silverline 226092 2-Tread Step Ladder Review
One of the UKs favourite no-nonsense DIY brands, Silverline carry an incredible range of tools, accessories and PPE. We got hold of their 226092 step ladder and took it for a test drive.
This isn’t a flimsy set of steps- the tubular steel feels solid and the treads are ribbed for safety. The rubberised surface helps you to feel confident when climbing up them. They’re slightly fiddly to set up, but with a little practise they’re ready in a flash.
We like the rubber carry handle, it makes handling this 3 kg set of steps easy to manoeuvre around the house or garage. It’s one of the best 2 step ladders available right now and we’d happily keep this set for ourselves.
Wolf Aluminium Folding Step Up Ladder Stool Review
This Wolf brand set of folding steps are ideal when you need a simple, small, and lightweight solution to your high up problems. They might look a bit flimsy, but they’re rated as strong as any of the other steps on this list.
Weighing in at just 1 kg, they are perfect for taking with you when you need a bit more height. They fold away to practically nothing, and the fetching jungle green coating should keep them from rusting away if you leave them outside.
We would like them more if you could get just a bit more height, but it’s a trade off that we can live with seeing as it’s one of the best step stools in this weight range.
Pavo 8041985 Red Metal Roller Stool Review
There isn’t much in the stationery world that Pavo haven’t turned their hand to. They produce a reliable range of office equipment, and their “elephant foot” style step is one of the best roller stools you can buy.
It’s not a folding set of steps that you can throw in the back of your car or slide into the corner of a kitchen cupboard, but it makes up for it with self-locking castors that can glide around your hard floors with ease.
The plastic construction feels almost indestructible- and it conforms to the German Equipment and Product Safety Act, which guarantees that it’s been tested for safety. The steps we got hold of were in a fetching red colour, but you could go for the classic black colour if you wish.
Spranster Super Strong Folding Step Stool Review
The ultimate quick folding step stool comes from Spranster in the form of their lightweight steps that fold completely flat. We weren’t sure about an all-plastic set of steps that looks like a milk crate at first, but they’re super strong and ridiculously easy to take with you.
You can see how strong these steps are by simply flipping them upside down. The cellular construction adds strength in all directions, and because they’re plastic they’re completely weatherproof and won’t rust on you.
Our favourite feature is the way it folds flat though. There’s no tricky catch to mess with or latch to trap your fingers- just grab the stool by the handle in the middle of the step and pull up. It folds flat with the handle at the top, and you’re ready to go. This simple reliability makes it one of the best folding step stools available right now.
Step Stool Buyer’s Guide
You won’t realise how handy having the best step stool is until you have one standing ready at home, in the workshop or even in the office. Reaching high shelves or lightbulbs in the ceiling doesn’t have to be a dangerous operation.
All folding step stools can be packed away, nice and flat, to save you a bit of room in the kitchen or bathroom. The big difference between them is if they have one, or two steps. Usually, the more compact the stool folds down, the less steps you have to climb up.
One of the best materials for a sturdy step stool is aluminium- strong but lightweight, it offers security but doesn’t compromise on weight. You’ll also find some of the best rolling stools and folding steps are made from tough ABS plastics.
The height of the top step on your folding stool will determine how high you can reach- and extra steps give you flexibility while keeping you on solid ground.
Check what the maximum load weight is on your choice of step stool if you are intending on climbing up while holding heavy items, as a combined weight may be above the maximum load.
The classic Elephant foot style stool by Pavo is unique because it rolls freely on casters until you step on it and they lock in place. This is great for when you need them to be flexible but not foldable.
Having the best folding step stool in your kitchen, caravan or workshop opens a world of possibilities. You could add a higher shelf for more storage in your garage or reach the top of a kitchen cupboard without having to climb dangerously onto a chair. With anti-slip rungs and rubber feet, a folding step stool is the only sensible choice.
After testing out five of the best step stools available right now, we realised that it’s hard to pick a winner when they all have different qualities. But if you need a capable set of steps that feel sturdy but can be hidden in the smallest space, we recommend the excellent ArtMoon Rock 2 step ladder.
