Yale SAA5015 Wireless Shed and Garage Alarm Review

One of the biggest and most trusted names in home security, Yale have been making quality locks since 1868, and have continued to innovate when it comes to keeping you and yours safe. We got our hands on the SAA5015 wireless garage alarm, and put it through its paces.

This is a seriously simple device to set up- no pairing up required. It’s a single, standalone unit that uses an PIR to activate a 100 Db loud alarm if you don’t plug in the right code within 10 seconds. Setting up the code is simple, and you know when you’ve set the alarm off because it bleeps before the 10 second timer starts to count down.

We think it’s one of the best wireless garage alarm systems because you only have to worry about one unit and one set of batteries, that last for ages anyway. It’ll even flash red when they need changing. If you need to keep your shed or garage safe on a budget, this is the choice for you.

CPVan CP2 Motion Sensor Alarm with Siren Review

Home security experts CPVan know more than a thing or two about making the best garage alarm system. With high quality CCTV cameras, smoke detectors and door alarm kits in their arsenal, they’re a one-stop-shop if you want to build yourself a secure home.

The motion sensor alarm we tried out can be mounted on the wall, floor or ceiling, and it looks good when it’s been installed. The sleek white case conceals a sensitive Passive Infrared Receiver and seriously loud 110 Db alarm if it’s set off. There’s even a mini-jack port if you want to connect the siren up to an external speaker.

You get an easy-to-use remote control to arm and silence the device which can also be paired with other CPVan motion sensors for a linked set up. It’s an affordable way to get professional levels of security in your garage, shed, boat, caravan or wherever someone might want to break in.

Ultra Secure Direct 3G UltraPIR GSM Alarm Review

The 3G UltraPIR GSM Alarm is one of the best garage alarms, because it will call you and up to two other keyholders on your phone, wherever you are, if it’s tripped. Using the 3G network, this smart alarm will call you then send a text message if someone is trying to get into your garage, shed or motorhome.

The set comes with a sensor and remote control- the sensor itself has a 10-metre detection range and when activated sounds a 130 Db alarm that should scare off any intruders. You can also set the alarm to silent and just let the system contact you if you want to catch them in the act.

The sensor unit runs on three AA batteries, and the remote control uses a flat CR type battery, and it’s even clever enough to let you know by text message when they’re running low on power. We think this is the next generation of smart alarm and will allow you to rest easy knowing that the UltraPIR is looking after you round the clock.

Garage Alarm Buyer’s Guide

If you’re like us, you’ve probably filled your garage full of tools and gadgets that can add up to a serious target for burglars. Make their job really difficult by attaching the best garage alarm system you can get.

Types of alarm

Garage alarm systems come in all shapes and sizes, depending on what you need to keep your things safe. We’ve tested out a several types that use different technology:

The majority of modern home alarm systems are wireless, because running wires through your walls to keep your home safe is thankfully a thing of the past. Modern alarms run on radio frequencies or in the case of the excellent UltraPIR, the best garage alarm system uses the mobile phone network. Some come with long-range remote controls to set and silence the alarm at a distance.

One of the special features of some of the alarm systems we’ve reviewed are that you can link up multiple sensors and receivers to create a net of security around your home or garage.

Types of sensor

The most common motion detector found in the best wireless garage alarm systems is Passive Infrared Receiver (PIR), that detects movement from up to 10 metres away. These low power sensors are excellent because they last for a long time on standard battery types.

Alarm tones and chimes

Motion detecting sensors don’t just have to be used for garage security- you can use them as door chimes in shops or pet sensors on a cat or dog flap. The best wireless garage alarm systems have a whole range of chimes to play when a door opens, for example, or other programmable pieces of music to play when someone knocks at your door.

Usage

If you want to keep your precious tools safe, you keep them in a protective case- but sometimes that’s just not enough when there are people out there who are prepared to take your stuff. Anyone who owns a caravan, boat, motorhome will make good of an intruder alarm.
