Sack Truck Reviews

Editors Choice
  • In comparison with the Wolfcraft TS 850, this trolley is an absolute bargain! It can handle almost as much weight and still folds down somewhat for almost half the price.
  • The solid rubber wheels are robust and capable. You won’t need to pump them up and there’s no worries about punctures on rough ground.
  • The large blue supporting blade might not look very strong, but it can take a lot of weight. It’s angled to make it easy to load, and folds away neatly when you’re done.

  • To get the most out of your sack trolley, it needs bungee cords to keep everything safe and secure. It’s a shame you don’t get any with this trolley compared with the Neekor.
  • The maximum load weight of 90 kg is 10 kg less compared with the Wolfcraft TS 850. That makes quite a lot of difference if you’re planning on using this trolley all the time.
  • Several users have complained that the telescopic handle release can get stuck. Seeing as the height adjuster is one of this trolley’s best features, it’s a shame if it’s not reliable.

The Einhell BT-HT 90 is a great example of a classic sack trolley that has been upgraded for the modern world. German tool brand Einhell make plenty of complex kit, so they should know a thing or two about making the best sack trollies.

The sturdy aluminium frame gives you rigid strength without the weight of steel, the solid rubber tyres won’t deflate, and the extendable handle allows for tall and short users alike to move heavy objects safely. Weighing in at 5.6 kg and handling a maximum weight of 90 kg, it’s a capable yet inexpensive trolley.

The folding baseplate isn’t flimsy and means the sack trolley can be stored away with a tiny footprint of 38 x 19 cm, which was really handy and made it my best folding sack truck crossover.

2. WMR Heavy Duty Folding Sack Truck

Best lightweight sack truck

best sack trucks WMR Heavy Duty Folding Sack Truck
  • This sack truck is one of the most affordable on my list. Compared with the HandiMoova, it’s a real bargain. Unless you use a sack truck all the time, why overspend on one?
  • Including a bungee cord and a pair of work gloves is a rather nice thought from WMR. Although I prefer ratchet straps to bungee cords, having spare work gloves is great.
  • A 90 kg load capacity is ideal for most household appliances. Washing machines usually weigh between 60 and 90 kg, so I wouldn’t hesitate to use this truck around the home.

  • The 150 mm diameter wheels are definitely on the small side. It’s not a huge problem over flat ground, but I wouldn’t like to try and haul a heavy item up some stairs with them.
  • There’s a little bit of assembly required before you can start using this sack trolley. Several users have complained that fitting the wheels is more difficult than it should be.
  • Compared with the heavy duty Deuba folding sack truck, this is a lightweight piece of kit. The toe is rigid, but it’s nowhere near as sturdy as the big blue machine.

This WMR heavy-duty folding sack truck is just what you’d need to move around heavy items in the home, and maybe even the garden. Constructed of steel and aluminium and rolling on solid rubber wheels, it’s surprisingly sturdy for a folding trolley.

Rated to lift and carry items up to 90 kg, it’s going to be your best friend during a house move or if you’ve got big plant pots to reposition. Just because it’s capable doesn’t make it bulky though. You can adjust the height by pulling on a lever and folding up the toe for easy storage.

Weighing in at just 5.2 kg thanks to the aluminium alloy square frame construction, you can easily pick this little sack truck up and take it with you. It might not be as versatile as one of the transforming platform trucks on my list, but it gets the job done and doesn’t cost the earth either.

3. G-Rack T2 Heavy Duty Industrial Steel Sack Truck

Best heavy duty sack trolley

best sack trucks G Rack T2 Heavy Duty Industrial Steel Sack Truck
  • This sack trolley can cope with a lot of weight. Even in comparison with the Ollies Trolleys, you can lug around a massive 325 kg. A standard washing machine weighs around 70 kg!
  • Pneumatic tyres are ideal if you want to avoid a bumpy ride. Compared with the solid rubber tyres on the Ollies Trolleys, they’re a lot more stable. I’ll always choose pneumatic tyres.
  • The inclusion of wheel and hand guards are essential safety devices. Binding wheels and crushing your hand in a door frame are common accidents when handling materials.

  • Several users have complained about the build quality of this sack trolley. For something rated to carry such a heavy load, it needs to be completely bullet proof.
  • More than a few people have also complained that the trolley was shipped without the washers needed to hold the wheels on straight. It’s not a sign of great quality control.
  • Compared with the Ollies Trolleys flip out toe, the blade on this sack trolley is rather small. If you’re trying to pick up white goods, it’s not going to be nearly as stable.

With one of the highest load capacities on my list, the G-Rack T2 is a beast. Everything about this steel sack truck is solid, robust, and ready for hard graft. The puncture-proof tyres will last for years and are even easy to install straight from delivery.

The feature I liked the most on this heavy-duty sack truck though were the subtle wheel guards. You might not notice them, but they will stop softer items from binding with the wheels, which would be extremely dangerous when dealing with hundreds of kilograms of weight.

The handguards are another feature of this best hand trolley for industrial use because they allow you to concentrate on moving the load and not worry about trapping your hand in a door frame.

4. Deuba Heavy Duty Folding Sack Truck[ SAVE 5% ]

Best budget folding steel sack truck

best sack trucks Deuba Heavy Duty Folding Sack Truck
  • Like the G-Rack T2 sack trolley, you get the all-important hand and wheel guards. They’re brilliant for keeping your hands out of trouble and avoiding getting bound up.
  • The loading shovel folds up vertically, making it much easier to store. Compared with the Ollies Trolleys toe, the footprint of this sack trolley can be made a lot smaller.
  • The upright section of this trolley has a more pronounced curve compared to the G-Rack T2. It makes this trolley more suited to carrying tubular items such as large gas bottles.

  • With a maximum load rating of 200 kg, you can’t expect to carry around super heavy items compared with the G-Rack T2. It’s rated 125 kg less than the heaviest duty trolley on my list.
  • Even though it’s not as capable as the G-Rack sack trolley, it still weighs as much. Coming in at 9 kg, the strength to weight ratio is nowhere near as good.
  • Compared with the Ollies Trolley’s massive fold out front toe, this thing is tiny! It’s great that it folds, but if you can’t use it to pick up large items safely it’s not the best sack trolley around.

The Deuba Folding Sack Truck stands up to industrial use even though it has a folding toe plate. With the same credentials as other solid heavy-duty sack trucks, the load rating is high enough for anything you can find at home, in the garden, or in the warehouse.

What sets this apart as the best folding sack truck for delicate items though, are the pneumatic tyres. Giving you superior cushioning for going over bumps or up and down steps, you don’t have to worry so much about jarring loads loose from the sack trolley.

If you need to move around brittle items like big garden plant pots, this must be the best hand trolley on the list. However, it doesn’t feature an extending toe for much larger items.

  • The telescopic handlebar helps you to pack this trolley up into a really small space. It’s easy to lower the handle as well, you simply push the central locking button.
  • This is the only trolley on my list that features integrated bungee cords. They’re incredibly handy for keeping things secure and are impossible to lose because they’re stuck on!
  • What makes this trolley ideal for taking with you is that it folds truly flat. It makes it easy to stow in the car or in a cupboard when you don’t need it.

  • There are definitely cheaper sack trolleys out there. The TS 850 is expensive and unless you really need a lightweight and folding trolley, you could save yourself a bit of cash.
  • Some users have had problems folding the trolley back up. You need to be firm with the folding mechanism, which won’t suit everyone.
  • Several users have complained that the trolley doesn’t quite live up to the 100 kg maximum weight limit. Even if this is down to user error, it should be able to take some rough handling.

This Wolfcraft TS 850 folding sack truck packs a serious punch in a small frame. I love the extra features like the clever fold-out mechanism and integrated bungee cords that secure your load from falling.

The solid wheels are big enough to safely go up and down steps without hassle, and the rounded pivot bar and handle make carrying things like gas bottles a breeze. Weighing in at 5.6 kg, and with a max load rating of 100 kg, this is light enough to take with you but tough enough for big loads.

It’s this versatility and build quality that makes the Wolfcraft TS 850 the best folding sack trolley that I’ve reviewed.

6. HandiMoova 2i-n-1 Sack Truck and Platform Trolley

Best convertible sack & platform trolley

best sack trucks HandiMoova 2i n 1 Sack Truck and Platform Trolley
  • When you convert from sack truck to platform trolley, the “toe” turns into a barrier on the back of the platform. It stops things from sliding off and gives you more options to tie things down.
  • Even though this capable trolley can carry heavy loads, it folds down really flat. It’s also light enough at 7 kg to hang on a hook when not in use. It’s ideal for chucking in the back of the car.
  • Compared with the small plastic wheels on the SPACEKEEPER truck, these solid tyres have tons of grippy tread. It’s as smooth to pull on sand or gravel as it is on hard floors.

  • Even though this is one of the best sack trolleys on the market, it’s expensive. Unless you’re planning to move a lot of things all the time, it’s hard to justify spending this much.
  • Even though 7 kg isn’t particularly heavy, compared with the Double Rhombus trolley it’s nowhere near as portable. This sack truck is probably too heavy for some users.

The HandiWorld brand have made it their mission to help you move your stuff around without losing your temper. More famous for their inflatable car roof racks, the HandiMoova is still one of the best 2 in 1 sack trucks on the market right now. Packed with clever features, it’s a sack trolley and a platform trolley.

This British engineered all-terrain sack trolley features big wheels that work just as well on soft surfaces as they do on hard floors. In sack truck mode, you get a rigid but lightweight way to move around heavy or tall items up to 70 kg, and in platform trolley mode a large flat surface for piling up all sorts of items up to 135 kg.

The toe section that holds your gear in sack truck mode can be flipped up and down. If you need more platform space, flip it down, but if you want a barrier to stop things sliding off the back, flip it up. The versatility of this sack trolley is what makes it useful for just about anyone.

7. SPACEKEEPER Folding Hand Truck

Best for folded down size

best sack trucks SPACEKEEPER Folding Hand Truck
  • Compared with the Ollies Trolleys sack truck, this is an incredibly slimline piece of kit. When folded down it’s less than 12 cm high, so it will fit in just about anywhere!
  • The extending bed makes this a versatile sack truck. Extending from 44 cm all the way up to 58 cm means you can spread the load out and carry more stuff without needing a bigger trolley.
  • The handle doesn’t just telescope out, it pivots out from the base of the trolley as well. This means you can pull it comfortably at almost any angle. It’s ideal for flat surfaces.

  • The hard plastic wheels make a lot of noise when you’re pulling the trolley around. They’re also quite small, so bumps in the pavement could be an issue. I wouldn’t try to use this off road either.
  • Because all six of the wheels swivel through 360°, this truck handles like a shopping trolley. I’d prefer it if one pair of wheels were fixed for better stability on uneven ground.

With a decent range of storage solutions and clever ways to move your kit around, SPACEKEEPER make one of the best folding sack trucks that I’ve seen so far. Even though it’s small and light enough to be carried around with one hand, it can carry up to 227 kg worth of load.

Made from hard plastic and sporting six wheels with dual bearings inside, this handy trolley has an extending bed for when you need to move extra-large items around. Each wheel swivels through 360° and the handle extends up to nearly 88 cm from the ground.

I like that SPACEKEEPER have included a pair of long elasticated bungee cords to secure the load onto the bed. It’s a nice extra to have included in the price. If you want a super portable and folding sack trolley, you can’t go wrong with this clever piece of equipment.

  • This truck comes with a pair of handy elasticated straps for securing your load. What I really like is that they’re the flat ribbon type that are more secure than round wire type straps.
  • One of the big benefits of having TPR wheels is that they’re whisper quiet. Compared with the noisy wheels on the SPACEKEEPER, you can make a silent entrance or exit.
  • The fold out mechanism is solid and saves time as well. The process of folding down the toe platform also pops out the wheels, so you don’t need to arrange them yourself.

  • Even though this little trolley is small and lightweight, it’s not as versatile as the HandiMoova truck. It only works in sack truck mode, so the platform space you have is rather small.
  • The small TPR wheels are excellent on hard surfaces and even wet pavement, but they’re not very good on soft ground. I wouldn’t try dragging this trolley across a field either!

If you need an incredibly lightweight and portable sack truck, the Double Rhombus folding dolly is a seriously useful piece of kit. Small enough and light enough to tuck under your arm, it’s the trolley you can take with you.

Made from sturdy tubular aluminium, this two-wheel sack truck has a telescopic handle and small solid thermoplastic rubber (TPR) wheels. These little wheels are non-slip and work just as well on wet surfaces as well as dry ones.

Folding down neatly to a small and flat package, you can stow this truck away in a cupboard or another small space. Once folded out, it’s capable of carrying up to 70 kg without any problems.

9. Ollies Trolleys Heavy Duty Sack Trolley

Best folding steel sack truck option

best sack trucks Ollies Trolleys Heavy Duty Sack Trolley
  • This is a “proper” sack trolley. Forget about thin aluminium or plastic parts, if you need to move a lot of weight this is one of the best heavy duty sack trolleys available right now.
  • This isn’t a folding trolley you can slip into a cupboard, but if you really need to save some space, the wheels are easily removed. Pop out the cotter pin and it’s a lot smaller!
  • There are two modes for carting around goods with this trolley. The large toe can be flipped down for large objects or flipped up when space is tight.

  • Several users have complained that the red rubber handles are not glued to the frame. If you’re dealing with heavy weights, they really should be properly secured.
  • If you want a super heavy duty trolley, this is it, but you need to pay a premium for it. It’s not a cheap item, so unless you’re planning to use it a lot, I’d save some money.
  • As some users have found, the diameter of the steel tubes is too big for most bungee cord hooks. You’d need to find ones with extra large hooks to have a chance of making them fit.

When I saw the Ollies Trolleys Heavy Duty Sack Trolley, I was totally impressed by its rugged design. It really feels like the best sack truck you would find in a warehouse. It’s large, heavy and ready for hard work.

There’s no lightweight aluminium here, just reliable powder-coated steel tubing for the frame and a solid steel axle. This makes this heavy-duty sack barrow perfect for shifting the heaviest items around the home, garden, or warehouse. Weighing a formidable 12.6 kg, this trolley can cope with a massive maximum load weight of 300 kg.

The flip-down toe on this hand truck is as solid as the rest of the welded frame. Measuring up at a whopping 41.5 x 51 cm when extended, it makes an ideal surface for shifting white goods like fridges and washing machines.

10. STANLEY SXWTD-HT523 Steel Hand Truck [ SAVE 24% ]

Best 3-wheel steel hand truck

best sack trucks STANLEY SXWTD HT523 Steel Hand Truck
  • Compared with the Einhell BT-HT90, or any other sack trolley on my list, this is the best one for going up and down stairs. The three-wheel setup is hard to match here.
  • The handles are made from a soft-grip type of rubberised plastic. You need to be able to grip a heavy sack trolley firmly, and these handles really do the job well.
  • The extra weight of this sack trolley is for good reason. The solid tubular steel construction is rigid and made for hard work. Compared with the lightweight folding trolleys it’s a tank!

  • The three-wheel setup is ideal for negotiating stairs, but it makes this sack trolley less capable in other ways. Smaller individual wheels make for a rather bumpy ride.
  • Compared with the G-Rack T2, this sack trolley isn’t quite as heavy duty. With a maximum load weight of 200 kg, it can carry 125 kg less than the best sack trolley on my list.
  • This is a seriously heavy sack trolley. Those extra wheels and tall frame make this beast weigh in at a formidable 13.4 kg.

Tool legends STANLEY have come up with a big and capable sack trolley that features a clever way to pull your loads up stairs without bumping the load around. Decked out in STANLEY’s recognisable bright yellow paint, the SXWTD-HT523 steel hand truck is a very capable bit of handling kit.

The biggest difference you’ll notice between this one and the other trucks on my list is the three-wheel setup. If you’ve ever tried to pull a sack trolley up or downstairs, you’ll know it’s a seriously bumpy ride. What this clever setup does is ensure that a wheel is always in contact with the steps to stop it from thumping around.

The innovations don’t stop there though. STANLEY have increased the vertical height of the trolley back, meaning you can lug around taller items safely. The plastic handguards will keep your fingers safe, and there are wheel covers in place to stop things from binding on the wheels.

How to Choose The Best Sack Truck

Moving heavy things is an inevitable part of life and work. If you’ve ever moved house then you know how hard it can be to shift furniture and kitchen appliances without hurting yourself or scratching the walls.

Sack trucks and sack trolleys have been used for centuries to move heavy goods around, using simple physics to make light work of hundreds of kilograms.

Whether you need a folding sack truck for occasional use to keep in the back of your car, or a heavy-duty sack truck or steel trolley for the warehouse, there are options for all occasions. Let’s take a look at some of the features in a bit more detail.

Features

The main consideration you have to make when buying the best sack truck is what you’re using it for.

If you need to take a sack truck with you, then go for a folding sack truck or hand truck with an aluminium frame, as this is strong but light. Such a sack truck might not offer as much maximum load capacity, but for example, the Wolfcraft TS 850 can still shift 100 kg while weighing less than 6 kg.

The same goes for folding ability. If you have to move 325 kg, the G-Rack T2 is the only one beefy enough for the job but you’ll need plenty of space to store it. The trade-off between rugged ability and portability should help you make an informed buying decision.

Conclusion

When it comes to saving your back and moving things around, any of the hand trolleys on our list are essential items for the garage, warehouse or job site. Look for one with heavy-lifting capability, solid wheels and the ability to fold into a small footprint.

Sack Truck FAQs

The first place to start is to have a good think about the heaviest weights you’re going to need to move around. If you’re just moving around a few boxes here and there, do you need a huge steel trolley rated to move 325 kg?

On the other hand, don’t try and overdo it with a lightweight folding sack trolley. When users complain about bending frames and sagging axles, they’re often trying to move huge weights with the wrong tool.

I’m a big fan of pneumatic tyres personally, I think they give a better ride and have more traction if you happen to take your sack trolley “off-road”. They do take a little more maintenance though; you need to make sure they’re correctly inflated or you’ll struggle to push the trolley around.

Solid tyres are virtually maintenance-free and are ideally suited to indoor environments like warehouses where grass and mud won’t come into the equation. The ride is a bit stiff though, so be careful if you’re moving grandma’s best china.

The best way to stop loads from sliding off your trolley is with bungee cords. The hooks on both ends grip the frame and stop it from moving too much. Be careful not to overstretch the cords as they can snap back with great force.

Try to secure the load with vertical and horizontal strapping. If you think the load is becoming loose, set the trolley down and reset the strapping before moving off again.

Always err on the side of caution as well, never overload a trolley. Two trips are always preferable to one overloaded one.
