Faithfull VDP75 75mm Drill Press Vice - Unigrip Review
Faithfull is another household brand name for anyone involved with DIY. The Faithfull VDP75 Drill Press Vice is a solid cast iron vice press with an impressive clamping capacity, allowing for larger materials to be drilled accurately in our pillar drill.
The handle on the Faithfull drill press vice is nicely knurled for grip and the locking mechanism is pretty clever, so we think this is the best drill press vice for larger drill presses.

Katsu Tools 40227340 4" 100mm Pillar Bench Drill Vice Review
Katsu are a solid budget tool brand and their Katsu Pillar Bench Drill Vice is the biggest and heaviest on the list without being too big for our pillar drill.
The finish is not as refined as the more expensive options, but the vice action worked smoothly straight from the box with no greasing needed, and we’re sure it will hold up to a lot of hard work.
We liked the machined vice jaws on the Katsu drill press and the sliding bar grip made tightening a doddle. It’s the best drill press vice for the UK market at this price point.

Silverline 380677 65mm Drill Press Vice Review
Silverline are a familiar brand to most handy people in the UK, and this Silverline 380677 mini drill press vice is lightweight and good for fine work.
The drill press vice jaws have a v-shaped groove cut into them that creates a useful central point that should hold round objects securely, which thought was useful on a small gauge vice.
Our favourite feature on this Silverline vice press that set it apart from the rest of the list was the quick release button. It can be a pain having to screw a vice all the way in and out all the time, so the hand button on the top saved us time when switching between workpieces.
We think it’s definitely the best drill press vice on this list for ease of use.

Yakamoz Universal Mini Drill Press Vice Clamp & Table Bench Vice Review
When you have a really delicate drilling job to do, large drill presses are often too cumbersome and don’t offer the fine tuning you need.
This Yakamoz mini drill press vice on the other hand, is small enough to work on jewellery and watches without a problem. We liked the extra plastic turret posts that let us hold irregular shapes for drilling.
Although the build quality wasn’t up there with the likes of the Faithfull drill press, we think this is the best drill press vice for fine work and model making.

Proxxon 20392 Primus 75 Prismatic Vice Review
Anyone who’s done a lot of clamping in their time has probably used Proxxon products, and their reputation is excellent. They haven’t let themselves down with what we think is the best drill press vice for the UK market available today.
Made from cast iron, the Proxxon drill press is small enough for delicate pillar drill work, but robust enough to last for years and keep your workpiece from sliding around. The machining was of a high quality as you would expect, and the textured jaws will stop any slippage.
How to Choose The Best Drill Press Vice
Drill presses are great tools to have in the workshop, because being able to drill holes parallel to the workpiece and at uniform depths is essential in good craftsmanship. When it comes to smaller pieces of material though, it can be difficult to hold the pieces steady without help.
Rather than being tempted to hold the workpiece in your hand, you really should invest in a drill press vice to ensure safety and accuracy at all times. Whether you’re looking for a heavy vice for metal working, or a light one to hold a watch steady, there are plenty of vice presses to choose from.
Safety
Whenever you’re using rotational power tools, it’s important to think of safety at all times. Avoid wearing gloves as they can get caught in the mechanism. Tie back any long hair, avoid wearing loose clothing and always wear the appropriate personal protective equipment like goggles and ear defenders.
How to use a drill press vice
If you follow these steps, you should drill straight holes every time:
Mark up the workpiece
Make a mark on the material you want to cut. Pencil works fine for most materials, but use a permanent marker for metal or glass. Make a cross as it’s more accurate than a dot.
Secure the workpiece
Drill press vices have a standard long hole on both sides that allows you to bolt the vise to the table on your drill press. We suggest fitting four to six bolts with washers on to secure it firmly, to stop any movement when drilling.
Only make the bolts finger tight to start with, so that you can reposition if you are off-centre. Wind the handle of the drill press down to see exactly where the drill bit hits, then when it’s perfect, tighten the bolts down fully.
Drill
When you’re happy that the workpiece is marked properly and the drill press vise is in the right place and tightened down, switch on the drill. Wind down the handle and lightly bounce the drill tip on the workpiece to make a mark.
Press the drill bit down slowly and let it do the work for you. Never force it to make it cut faster, as it could wander, or even snap the bit. Remember to lift the drill out of the hole to clear any swarf and you should get a nice, even hole.
