We tested out their Lasergrip 1080 and fell in love with the rugged exterior and moulded gun-style grips. The LCD screen is bright, easy to read and even turns itself off when not in use. We found the laser to be accurate and kept a steady temperature during use.

Fluke 62 Max Infrared Thermometer [Energy Class A] Review
The grandaddy of industrial testing equipment companies, Fluke started all the way back in 1948 by manufacturing multimeters and other quality measuring devices. We took a look at their 62 MAX infrared thermometer and put it through its paces.
The first thing we noticed about this thermometer is the rugged design. It’s IP54 water and dust resistant as well as guaranteed to survive a three-metre drop, so it’s built to last whatever you throw at it. We reckon it’s the best infrared thermometer for professional use due to its high level of accuracy, but it’s also fun to use and feels great in your hand.

Based in the heart of Germany’s Black Forest, testo have been producing superb measuring equipment since 1957. We tested out the 830-T2 infrared thermometer and think it’s one of best pyrometers available to the UK market.
It’s a compact and well-made device with a comfortable gun-style grip that makes for easy operation. Our favourite feature has to be that you can connect a temperature probe for contact temperature readings for a truly accurate measurement.
We tried it out on a few different surfaces and noticed it has a stable temperature reading, which you don’t get on cheap IR thermometers. It feels like a professional grade measuring tool that’s also fun to play around with.

Cocoda Laser Infrared Thermometer Review
Cocoda have put their name on an impressive number of useful gadgets, especially their instant read thermometers and in car accessories. We got hold of their DT8550J infrared thermometer and tested it out on some heated surfaces.
The range of the IR sensor is the first thing we noticed- with an impressive 12:1 spot distance ratio you don’t have to hold it right up to the thing you want to read, which we think’s really handy.
The construction of the hand grip feels sturdy and the trigger has a nice action to it as well, but our favourite part is that it has the best laser thermometer screen out of all the devices we tested, the backlight means it can be used in the darkest environments.
Infrared Thermometer Buyer’s Guide
Buying the best infrared thermometer can mean the difference between taking accurate hands-free readings and making wild guesses about temperatures. Whether you’re a professional heating engineer or a budding home baker, it makes sense to invest in one of these clever gadgets.
Main features
You’ll need to pay attention to the maximum and minimum readings that your IR thermometer can accurately take. The range on most devices is good at around -40 to 500 °C, but if you need to check extreme temperatures, the Cocoda infrared thermometer is the one for you.
The accuracy of temperature readings varies between products, but you can expect to see ±1.5% of the real temperature in premium devices like the Fluke 62 MAX.
Another useful feature you’ll find on the best IR thermometers is a memory function, allowing you to save temperature readings in the device’s internal memory for later viewing.
The laser pointer on the best pyrometers have a better distance to spot size ratio as well- this tells you how accurate the temperature reading is to the size of the laser being fired out of the device- the Fluke 62 MAX has a 10:1 ratio that provides accurate measuring over longer distances.
Other handy features found on the best IR thermometers are backlit displays for taking readings in the dark, wrist straps for secure use and if it can be clipped to your work belt when you don’t need it.
Usage
Infrared thermometers have found their way into all sorts of industrial applications from plumbers checking the efficiency of radiators and boilers to chefs quickly checking the temperature of cooking meat. If you need to take the temperature of something, but a probe won’t do, this is the right instrument for you.
