Adjusting the height of the pole is easy, and the hoop is fairly wide which makes it great for younger children or those new to basketball. The backboard is good quality, made from premium PE. 

There’s wheels attached to the base which make it easy to move, although transporting the hoop is very easy given the fact it only weighs 8 kg. 

Some users have noticed water escaping from the base. For extra stability, I’d recommend filling it with sand as opposed to water.

If you’re serious about your basketball or you have ambitions of playing competitively, the Dripex Portable 10ft Basketball Backboard Hoop Net is the one for you. This hoop has a maximum height of 10 ft, which is the height of a standard NBA hoop. 

Although slightly more expensive than others I’ve recommended, it remains very good value for money. That’s because it can be adjusted from a height of 2.3 m, up to the standard 10 ft height. There’s 12 levels in between so there’s plenty of choice. 

It’s been built to last, made from a 66 mm steel tube bracket and a 16 mm ball frame. The backboard is made from thickened PVC, while the entire construction is weather resistant and fairly durable. 

The base is larger than other models I’ve tested (as you’d expect given the taller height) at 90 cm x 60 cm x 17 cm. It can be filled with either water or sand.

There’s two rolling wheels attached to the base which makes it easy to drag across patios or other hard surfaces.

If you’re not looking for a full height basketball hoop, and instead you’re after something compact and easy to assemble, the Bee-Ball BB-05 Adjustable Basketball Hoop is a good choice.

It’s good quality as well as being very affordable. It’s made using UV resistant blow moulded PE, and the bright pattern on the backboard shouldn’t fade in strong sunlight. The base measures 75 x 45 x 13 cm, so it’s slightly smaller than others I have tested, but this shouldn’t matter as the hoop itself is lighter and shorter. 

It’s also very portable. At just 10.36 kg, this hoop is easy to lift from spot to spot, while the wheels on the base mean it can also be dragged. The base can be filled with either water or sand. 

There’s a lot to love about this basketball hoop, with the easy adjustability one of its top features. For competitive players, it may not be tall enough, but for a few hours of fun in the garden with younger kids, it’s a great option.

Another benefit of wall mounted hoops is that they take up much less space. All you need is a spot on a wall in your garden to install this hoop. It comes with a screw kit included which makes it fairly easy to mount to the wall.

It’s made from UV protected plastic. While this does mean it won’t fade in strong sunlight, it’s not strong enough for very aggressive play. Dunking should be avoided, and overuse may cause the hoop to weaken. 

The backboard has a target on the back which can help to improve your shooting skills. Aim for that section of the backboard (as opposed to the hoop itself) and the ball is more likely to go in!

Of course, as with a lot of these novelty toys, the quality could be better. While made from good quality plastic, it shouldn’t be used for very aggressive play, and you should only use the very lightweight balls provided.

While it fits on most doors, those with older homes and thicker doors may find that it doesn’t quite fit. If this is the case, you could hang it on a wardrobe door instead.
