If you’re after a quick and simple to use weedkiller then Roundup Fast Action Weedkiller Pump ‘N Go Ready To Use Spray is probably going to suit you.

It’s a well-known household name and best of all comes ready to spray right from its own integral sprayer. I was pretty pleased to see this weedkiller arrive on my doorstep because it looked simple to use and I’m really not a fan of weighing, measuring, and trying to find my glasses.

Here’s how it fared against my weeds.

Overall, this was a doddle to use.

It’s heavy but well balanced and the sprayer fires the weedkiller 1.2 metres on fine or jet spray so it doesn’t get all over your hands, feet or other plants you don’t want to kill.

Its pressure-driven so requires some pumping to build up enough head of pressure. Without enough pumping, it tends to dribble a little, so I’d recommend protective gloves and shoes without holes (not crocs – why are you looking at me?!) to make sure it doesn’t touch your skin.

One downside is that the pumping could be a problem for someone with restricted mobility. My mother who has rheumatoid arthritis for example couldn’t press it down enough to build up the pressure. I found the pump was a fair bit harder to use than Resolva’s similar 24 hour weedkiller.

It’s a 5-litre bottle so heavy enough to know it’s there. I wouldn’t say it’s too heavy though and it has an integral handle with finger grips for easy portability.

After using it, the pipe winds back into place and the sprayer head tucks back under a little safety notch so it doesn’t fly around and spray leftover weedkiller in your face.

The sprayer head is adjustable which was great news for me because I wanted to use it on several smaller areas. I didn’t want a ‘cover the area’ approach from a watering can. This little sprayer head did a great job of not only directing the weedkiller but using a small amount so it also worked out as pretty good value.

Yes, it killed the weeds I applied it to. I started to see signs of Roundup working after a couple of hours because the leaves started to wilt.

I liked that I could reach weeds over a metre away with the sprayer which was really handy trying to reach the back of large raised beds that are always getting filled up with dock leaves.

On the downside, it was a touch windy as I was applying the Roundup and I could see the product blowing off to one side. Luckily for me, I was applying it where there were very few cultivated plants so nothing else was killed. Just something to be wary of.

Weeds, including dock and creeping buttercup, looked ill after a few hours and after 3 days they had browned. After 7 days bits were blowing away in the breeze. After two-three weeks the roots were dead so it does live up to its promise.

Dock and creeping buttercup took the longest to die off, but the dock remains I dug out looked thoroughly dead from tip to root.

Roundup says roots are killed after 7 days and it’s done a good job but it took several weeks to kill the roots, not 7 days.

Eco-Friendliness

Glyphosate (the main ingredient) is toxic to fish and pondlife so It’s not eco-friendly, but Roundup says it is ‘inactivated’ on contact with soil and broken down by soil microorganisms, allowing you to replant afterwards which is good when you want to tidy up flower borders or replant the area.

However, this weedkiller is toxic to bees and other beneficial pollinators. It’s best to remove flowers by hand so bees don’t ingest the chemicals. If you want a weedkiller that doesn’t kill pollinators choose a glyphosate free one such as Neudorff Weed-free Plus.

Roundup states that pets and children should be kept away until the weedkiller is dry. It dried after around 30 minutes so that’s a plus.
