VonHaus 1600W Pressure Washer Review

Written by: - Landscape Gardener

In my experience, VonHaus products usually cost less than the competition, but are comparable when it comes to features and performance. The VonHaus 1600W Pressure Washer is no exception. Although it’s slightly lacking when it comes to versatility, it offers strong pressure and a solid motor, making it ideal for those who need something a little more powerful than the majority of the home/garden pressure washers out there.

A brand known for prioritising quality and value, along with good prices, VonHaus produces everything from DIY tools to kitchen appliances to home furniture. I’ve used several of their products in the past and have been pretty happy with how they’ve performed, so I had high hopes for their 1600W pressure washer

VonHaus states that this machine was designed to clear stubborn stains, particularly from pavements, flag stones, and guttering. While that may be the case, I had a couple of different jobs in mind for it – cleaning a dirty car and clearing away all of the grime that had built up on a hot tub that had been sitting untouched in my garden for over a year.

VonHaus products are often easy to assemble, so I was happy to find that this one was the same. Assembling this pressure washer was pretty simple – it only took about 5-10 minutes in total.

I started by attaching the hose to the gun, and then the hose to the main body of the machine. It pushes into place and then screws on – it doesn’t really get much easier! The nozzle also clicked in easily, and the plastic hook for the cable cleanly slides on. You don’t need any tools and you don’t need to use any force.

After this, I was ready to connect my garden hose to the pressure washer (you’ll need to buy a double-sided push connector for this, since VonHaus unfortunately doesn’t supply one) and get started!

Design

There’s nothing complex about the design of this VonHaus pressure washer, but that’s not a bad thing. It’s nothing spectacular to look at (its grey, black, and orange colour palette doesn’t really scream out for attention), but that doesn’t really matter when it comes to a pressure washer!

What does matter is that it’s a relatively compact machine with a 5m cable and a 5m hose. As mentioned, there’s also a hook on the back of the main unit that you can wind the hose around to neatly store it away, which is handy!

It has a handle at the top to make it easy to carry the machine around, as well as a large on/off dial on the front of the unit.

While assembling the pressure washer, I noticed that it was double filtered. This is always a good thing as it prevents dirt and debris from entering into the machine and causing problems.

In addition to the spray gun that I had already attached to the pressure washer (which has an adjustable nozzle), this product also comes with an attachable detergent bottle.

Like I said, it’s pretty simple, but it has just about all of the features that you could need, with no design flaws.

Performance

So, how well did this pressure washer actually perform?

I started with the car. I gave it a quick wash before filling the bottle attachment with some cleaning solution. It worked well – it released a steady stream of soapy water that allowed me to quickly soap my car up. After this, a quick rinse and I was finished!

I then moved on to my hot tub, which was in desperate need of a good scrubbing. I started by switching the nozzle to the soft spray (since I was scared of damaging the hot tub with too strong a pressure). However, this didn’t really have much of an effect, so I switched over to the hard spray. Once I did this, you could literally see the clean streaks left behind by the pressure washer as I ran it over the hot tub. I ended up using it a maximum pressure, making sure that I didn’t stand too close to the hot tub.

For this pressure washer, maximum pressure 135 bar. Coupled with its 1600W motor, this was the most powerful of all of the pressure washers I tested, and you could definitely feel this difference in power when using it.

Ease of Use

Some pressure washers can be pretty cumbersome to use, but VonHaus has made this one as convenient as possible. For starters, it’s extremely light. It weighs just under 6kg, meaning that you’ll easily be able to move it around when using the machine.

That said, I didn’t need to move it around at all while it was in use. The 5m cable paired with the 5m hose gave me enough reach to manoeuvre my way around both my car and my hot tub without needing to bring the pressure washer unit with me. However, I was using an extension lead – if you’re plugging the pressure washer directly into your house to then use it outside, you may find the cable a little short.

My main gripe, and it’s not a big one, would be related to the trigger. Compared to the other pressure washers that I tested, this one needed quite a hard squeeze in order to get things going. There’s no way to keep the trigger held down, so it does feel a little sore on the fingers after a while.

Other than that, there’s nothing that I would change about this pressure washer to make it easier to use. Even switching between the attachments mid-job wasn’t an issue in the slightest – VonHaus really did try to think of everything!

Versatility

Interestingly, there don’t seem to be any extra accessories available for this machine. While VonHaus states that this pressure washer comes with accessories, you don’t really get much – it’s only a spray gun and a bottle. This is a shame as it slightly limits the machine’s versatility. In comparison, the Bosch Easy Aquatak 120 comes with several accessories, from an extra nozzle to a brush, with the option of purchasing even more.

That said, this pressure washer is still pretty versatile. Being able to adjust spray type and water pressure means that, even without any accessories, you’d still be able to use it for a variety of different tasks, whether you wanted to wash your car, clean your windows, or scrub your garden path.

Value for Money

5

In my opinion, this pressure washer comes in at a great price. For what you’re paying, you’re getting a powerful and versatile machine that, in some ways, offers even more than its higher-priced competitors.

Take the Bosch that I mentioned earlier for example – it costs more yet has a slightly smaller motor, along with lower water pressure. On the other hand, this pressure washer doesn’t have quite as many accessories. However, if it did, it would probably be priced higher.
