Using bird feeders encourages a multitude of songbirds into your garden where you can enjoy watching them. The food you provide also helps our precious garden birds thrive.
However, for many of us, squirrels can be a problem. These ingenious creatures steal the food from bird feeders before the birds have a chance to dine. In addition, they often damage the feeders themselves. This can end up costing a lot of money in seed and feeders!
You can try giving squirrels their own feeders full of peanuts, but this probably won’t stop them from stealing the food you put out for the birds. In addition to squirrels, your bird feeder can often be raided by larger birds and even rats.
Luckily there are lots of excellent squirrel proof bird feeders available.
Here are two I have found to be particularly effective at outwitting the squirrels in my garden.
