The mini circular saw is the conventional circular saw’s little brother. It is the go-to saw when you need power and accuracy but don’t need to use both hands. The mini circular saw is compact, lightweight and portable yet still packs plenty of bite.
The blade of this compact circular saw is of course that much smaller – 85-120mm in diameter compared to a standard circular saw blade size of 165-190mm. The cutting depth is therefore reduced too – corded versions can cut down to around 45mm at 90°, compared to around 65mm.
Smaller circular saws can still make both angled and bevel cuts but not all can make bevel cuts.
These compact circular saws can be cordless or corded. Cordless versions are more convenient in terms of safety and portability but they are more expensive. Corded versions in general are more powerful and boast a constant source of power. Corded versions also make deeper cuts.
If you are after high levels of precision don’t forget to look out for a laser guide. Not all compact circular saws are equipped with one. And finally, although not a deal breaker, look out for the number of blades supplied with the saw. Having a spare blade around in an emergency is always a good thing!
I’ve spent many hours researching the best mini circular saw for any budget so you don’t have to. Here’s what I discovered…
