1. VonHaus 44 Pcs Wall Mount Storage Pegboard

Best for number of bins and hooks

best pegboards VonHaus 44 Pcs Wall Mount Storage Pegboard
  • Compared with the other VonHaus pegboard on my list, this one’s a bit more versatile. As well as hooks for tools, there are plastic bins for screws and nails.
  • Thanks to the two separate wall plates, it’s a wonderfully versatile bit of kit. You could place them next to each other, one above the other, or completely separately.
  • Even though this is a plastic pegboard, it’s stronger than you might think. Unless you really need a heavy duty steel pegboard system, plastic is ideal for DIYers.
  • There are plenty of places to attach this pegboard to a wall. Whether you want to use 8 fixings or 24, there are tons of fixing points.

  • Although VonHaus have advertised this pegboard as something for holding your tools, it’s not that strong. Compared with the Wall Control 30-P-3232GV it’s flimsy.
  • The plastic bins suffer the same problems as the Deuba mounting rack. If the plastic wall plate flexes, the bins can be hard to remove individually.
  • You need to fix this pegboard to the wall with quite a few screws to make it strong enough. It’s a shame that VonHaus haven’t included any screws to help you along the way.
  • Just like the other VonHaus pegboard on my list, you can’t get spare hooks or bins. It’s a shame, because otherwise it’s a very flexible system. You just can’t upgrade it.

VonHaus are well-known for their affordable tools, accessories and gadgets designed to make life a little easier. I checked out their clever wall mounted storage system. It certainly answers the question of what to do with all your bits and pieces when space is at a premium.

Made from extremely durable and light impact-resistant plastic, the pegboard itself comes in two parts. Together they can hold up to a maximum of 36 kg worth of tools and accessories. It uses clever wide locating slots, as well as traditional hook holes. It means this DIY pegboard can provide added flexibility for where you can locate the hooks and bins.

The bins themselves are removable and can be stacked when not in use. They come in three sizes that can hold from 1 to 2.5 kg. They’re useful for holding screws, nails, brackets, or anything else that you need to keep organised.

As you would expect from the best tool pegboards, there are 14 tool storage accessories to choose from. They include a handy adjustable width spanner holder and a range of hooks that can be positioned to hold hammers or mallets as well as tools with hanging holes.

2. Deuba Wall Panel with Plastic Bin Kit

Best for number of bins

best pegboards Deuba Wall Panel with Plastic Bin Kit
  • Deuba have included 32 bins for you to get organised. Compared with the Wall Control 30-P-3232GV, this is a full storage kit, you don’t need to buy anything else.
  • This is an affordable kit for any home workshop, shed or garage. It costs a lot less compared with the Wall Control pegboard, but still offers a versatile storage solution.
  • It’s great that there are two different sizes of bin. The large black ones are 165 x 105 x 75 mm, and the medium red ones are 100 x 95 x 50 mm. Plenty of space for most fixings.
  • It’s an easy pegboard system to expand. There are fittings along the edges of the panels that allow you to snap them together. It’s secure and means you can increase your storage space.

  • Some users have complained that the bins are mounted too close together. It can be difficult removing just one bin due to the flexibility of the wall panels.
  • I’m concerned about the long term durability of the plastic wall panels and bins. Compared with the rock solid Wall Control 30-P-3232GV, these wouldn’t last years of abuse.
  • At just 320 x 380 mm, these are small wall panels. Make sure you consider their relatively small size before purchase.
  • The bin sizes are ideal for small screws and other fixings, but don’t expect to store big stuff in them. They’re not suitable for heavy items either.

With a dizzying range of useful homewares and DIY products from garden sheds to skateboards, Deuba are a force to be reckoned with. Their wall panel kit is one of the best pegboards I’ve come across. It’s surprisingly sturdy and comes with a huge number of plastic bins for your bits and pieces.

Sheds, garages, and workshops can never have enough storage. If you’re a keen DIYer or crafter, having the right fixing on hand saves you time and effort, so this system is ideal. It’s a versatile system that allows you to easily move boxes around and take them off when you need to.

You get two polypropylene plastic panels that fix on the wall and 32 bins in two different sizes. There are 14 large black boxes and 16 medium red boxes, that can be positioned almost anywhere along the width of the panel.

There’s a handy slot on the front of each bin for a description label as well. If you’re planning on organising your screws, nails and other bits, it’s a good idea to take advantage of this system! This is a handy and attractive way to organise and display the things that would otherwise be clogging up your tool kit.

3. VonHaus Garage Wall Tool Rack Pegboard

Best for number of hooks and shelves

best pegboards VonHaus Garage Wall Tool Rack Pegboard
  • It’s almost unbelievable just how many slots, hooks, and holes there are in this set. With a bit of shuffling around, you could easily fit an entire toolkit onto this pegboard.
  • The two shelves are probably the best pegboard accessory I’ve come across. You could use them as normal shelves, or hang tens of tools from the assorted hooks, slots and holes.
  • There are 50, yes, 50 hooks on this pegboard. Compared with the Wall Control 30-P-3232GV, there’s a lot there without needing to buy any accessories.
  • There are tons of holes for mounting this pegboard on the wall. You’re not limited for places to screw it in.

  • Compared with the Deuba wall panel, there aren’t any bins for storing bits and pieces. It would be great to have a few places for storing small screws or fixings as well as tools.
  • The plastic wall panels aren’t rigid. Unless you use lots of screws to fix it into the wall, it can bend out of shape. It will take much longer to put it up with these extra fixings.
  • I couldn’t find an easy way to buy any extra accessories for this wall kit. Compared with the Wall Control pegboard, you’re stuck with what you have bought.
  • Some users have complained that the hooks often come off with the tool. The locking system could do with being a bit stronger.

A home pegboard storage solution from the Manchester-based VonHaus company is the garage pegboard and shelf tool organiser.

It’s the perfect solution to having stacks of tools and accessories spread out across multiple toolboxes and bags. Especially when you seem to spend more time looking for each tool than working with them. The VonHaus Garage Wall Tool Rack Pegboard is large enough to accommodate a whole toolbox. And the two separate pegboards can be configured to fit a modest-sized wall.

Made of tough, impact-resistant plastic, this DIY pegboard is lighter than a steel pegboard but just as strong. The pegboards are not flimsy and can be attached to the wall with as many fixings as you think it needs. I think this is possibly the best pegboard because it offers real value in its flexibility.

My favourite feature of this pegboard storage solution is the pair of multi-purpose shelves included in the set. They provide a ridiculous amount of storage in the same tough plastic as the pegboard is made from. The ten front hooks can be used to hang smaller items such as screwdrivers or keys. The multiple slots and holes in the shelf itself can accommodate a whole range of hand tools.

4. LaserSmith 6 mm Thick Wooden Pegboard

Best wooden pegboard

best pegboards LaserSmith 6 mm Thick Wooden Pegboard
  • Compared with the plastic used in the Art Plast pegboard, this 6 mm MDF feels really strong. It’s not going to crack, and it’s not as heavy as a steel pegboard.
  • You can’t get much more flexible than a simple pegboard. If the dimensions aren’t right, you can cut it down to fit a space, or line up multiple pegboards in a row.
  • There are hundreds or different types of pegboard accessories available. Any type of hook, to shelves and bins are easy to find and fit. It’s easy to make this pegboard fit your needs.
  • This pegboard is well packaged for shipping. LaserSmith have made sure the corners are well protected against damage that’s common with MDF boards.

  • You’ll need to make your own wall spacers if you want to fit long pegs into this board. You can’t just mount it flush with the wall as the 6 mm depth isn’t enough to hold pegs.
  • This pegboard doesn’t come with anything at all. Compared with the full kit provided in the VonHaus pegboards, it’s not a starter’s set.
  • It’s a great pegboard but compared with the steel Wall Control 30-P-3232GV set, it’s not as strong. It’s not the best choice if you plan to hang heavy tools from your pegboard.
  • MDF isn’t the best material to use in a damp shed or garage. Without proper ventilation, it can swell up or become mouldy. It’s a good idea to treat it before installation.

Northern Ireland’s LaserSmith are laser and CNC cutting experts. If it can be cut with a laser, they know how to do it. Their range of clever storage solutions is impressive, but the 6 mm thick wooden pegboard I tested out really goes back to basics.

CNC cut from solid-feeling 6 mm MDF, this is the sort of pegboard that hasn’t changed in decades. It’s simple, reliable, and completely versatile. Measuring 1000 x 500 mm, it’s big enough to cover a large wall space.

The peg holes are 6 mm wide and spaced exactly 1” or 25.4 mm apart across the face of the board. That makes them perfect for holding all sorts of hand tools, fixings, or just about anything else.

Although this pegboard doesn’t come supplied with spacers, fixings, or fittings, it’s a quality storage solution. It’s been well machined and fits standard pegboard fittings that are widely available. If you want a simple but effective pegboard, you can’t go far wrong with this one.

  • More than ten times stronger than conventional pegboard. This is seriously heavy duty steel pegboard. It’s not going to shatter compared with plastic like the VonHaus garage wall rack.
  • I like the slotted holes machined into the steel surface. They fit Wall Control accessories like shelf brackets, hooks, and bins of all sizes. It makes it a brilliantly versatile storage system.
  • Thanks to the huge number of peg holes and slots, it’s possible to hang things in almost any position. They’re like racks you’d find in a DIY shop, the only limitation’s your imagination!
  • I love the fact that it uses standardised holes and slots. It doesn’t have a limiting proprietary system, meaning you can use accessories from most manufacturers.

  • This is a heavy duty set of pegboards. Weighing 6 kg each, you’ll need help putting them up. Compared with the lightweight Deuba system they might be too heavy for your walls.
  • If you’re planning on attaching this pegboard system to internal walls, make sure your wall studs are 16” apart! I wouldn’t want to try any hang this pegboard with plasterboard fixings.
  • Make sure you’re wearing gloves when hanging this pegboard up. The galvanised metal panels are sharp on the edges.
  • It’s a shame that the Wall Control system does come with any hooks or brackets at all. Compared with the 30 accessories supplied with the Deuba, it’s a bit stingy.
  • Unless you really need the heaviest duty pegboard around, the price of this stuff is hard to justify. If you’re on a budget, there are much cheaper systems available.

Atlanta, Georgia based Wall Control are one of the best known US-made pegboard companies. They know their stuff too, their motto is “the organization you crave”. So, if you crave the best pegboard system that money can buy, the 30-P-3232GV galvanized steel panels are the ones for you.

The most vital part of this pegboard system is the materials used in construction. The galvanised steel panel has been coated with a protective layer of zinc to help keep out the elements. It’s a lot less likely to get rusty in a damp shed or garage. You get the strength of steel without worrying it’ll rot out on you over time.

Made in the USA, the pack contains two 41 x 81 cm panels. You can mount them next to each other or wherever it suits you, they go up quickly with just a screw in each corner. The edges of the panels are flanged or bent backwards so that the panel sticks out from the wall enough to hang almost any tool you have.

The galvanised steel panels look great on the wall too. I like the raw steel finish, but if you want, you can choose from ten different colours. Although the kit doesn’t come with hooks or bins, it’s compatible with ¼” pegs and has slots for attaching shelf brackets. I love it!

  • Compared with the VonHaus pegboards, you can order extra hooks easily. It makes this one of the best tool storage solutions you can expand as you need it.
  • There are 50 different hooks, clips, and holders to fit onto the pegboard. It’s useful to have a variety of different holders and not just basic hooks.
  • This is one of the most affordable solutions for keeping your fixings and hand tools organised. If you’re a DIYer on a budget, this is probably the best pegboard I’ve tested out.
  • The row of hooks along the front of the yellow shelf section are ideal for hanging odds and ends. You could mount keys, small hand tools or lengths of string if you wanted.

  • It would have been nice if Art Plast had included some wall fixings for this pegboard. There are plenty of pre-drilled holes, but you’ll need to find your won way to attach it to a wall.
  • It’s hard to tell what the weight limit of this pegboard is. Although you’d be foolhardy to try and hang power tools, it would be useful to know what it’s rated for!
  • Several users have complained that the hooks fall off too easily when removing tools. It would get annoying, especially if you’ve spent time placing them to fit your tools well.
  • Some users have complained that they received a different colour pegboard to the one advertised. The yellow shelf section was sometimes shipped as orange.

The Art Plast garage wall storage rack I got my hands on is a clever and flexible way to stow all your tools and accessories.

The pair of large 500 x 500 mm plastic wall plates are fixed to the walls at each corner and are packed with hundreds of little holes. These holes can hold a range of hooks, holders, and a shelf that in turn has plenty of slots for hand tools.

There are two yellow plastic shelves that can be connected wherever they’re more useful as well. It’s the ideal place to slot lightweight tools like files and screwdrivers. The plastic used is surprisingly strong, if it’s not overloaded it should last for a long time.

Harry's Smart Buying Tips

  1. The best pegboards should be sturdy yet versatile enough to create a storage system that can accommodate both the smallest hand tools and larger power tools, along with nuts and bolts, screws and widgets.
  2. Accessories such as bins, holders, hooks and shelves should be able to clip into any location on the pegboard you choose.

How to Choose the Best Pegboard

Any keen DIYer will know that at least half of the job is remembering where you put your tools and fixings after the last time you used them. Searching through boxes and bags to find the right screw wastes time, so investing in a pegboard tool holder is a great idea.

Pegboard Features

The best pegboard fits around your wall, not the other way around. This is why modular systems like those described above are so useful.

Multiple tool boards can be connected vertically or horizontally to make an entire pegboard wall if you have the space or can be used singularly if all you have is a small wall.

Different hooks and holders are usually included in a pegboard storage system so you can store the smallest hand tools up to heavy drills and whole sets of spanners. The other most useful holders on the best pegboard systems are removable bins that can be filled with anything you can think of.

Pegboard FAQ's

What material is best for a pegboard?

There are a few options when it comes to pegboard material. Plastic, wood and metal are the most popular options, and there are pros and cons to each of these.

Plastic pegboards are lightweight and affordable. They are a great choice for those with a limited budget, and they are still surprisingly strong. As long as the pegboard is made from good quality plastic and not overloaded, you should find that plastic pegboard lasts a very long time.

Wood is the most expensive material. Wooden pegboards add a lot more aesthetically than plastic or metal, and for this reason, they are more expensive. They are a good option if you value style as well as functionality! It’s worth noting that splintering can occur if too much weight is hung from the pegboard, and moisture can also damage the wood. However, wooden pegboards can be treated every year or so with either stain or paint to prevent this.

Metal pegboards are another good option. The metal used is normally galvanised steel. This is very strong, and great for heavier tools and heavy-duty hooks. However, you should ensure the structural support behind it is strong enough for your pegboard. If you value strength over anything else, a metal pegboard is the best material.
