Weedol Lawn Weed Killer Concentrate Liquid is an interesting concept because it kills weeds but not grass. I had a hard job believing it, but the proof was clear! It did actually kill perennial weeds and left my grass green with room to breathe.

Our Verdict of The Weedol Lawn Weed Killer Concentrate Liquid
Ease Of Application
Safety precautions are needed. You should wear gloves and something waterproof on your feet.
Whilst not as simple as ready-mix pump-action weedkillers this is still easy to apply. It comes in a small bottle of concentred liquid that needs dilution. The ratio is 15 mls to 1 litre in a sprayer or 5 litres of water in a watering can.
I chose to use a watering can. Now, 15 mls is a very tiny amount but the bottle has a measuring cap so you can get it right. I needed my glasses to see the lines and spilt a fair amount trying to get it in the cap though so you’ll need to be careful what’s beneath when you pour it out.
Once the weedkiller is in the water you just need to shake it up and they apply it over 10 square metres of lawn.
I didn’t use it across my whole lawn because I was very wary of killing my grass, so I tried 2 metres by 2 metres which seemed like a fair compromise!
The watering can did a good job of evenly getting the weedkiller onto the grass, the liquid isn’t thick and it flies through the rows without difficulty. It was very easy to apply.
Effectiveness
I was pretty surprised that this treatment killed daisies and plantain on the lawn but left the grass unscathed! What is this witchcraft?
I was under the impression that weedkillers killed anything growing plus insects and fish, but this seems a bit gentler because it doesn’t contain any glyphosate.
Weedol kills weed roots but it’s a slow burner. If you’re impatient this isn’t for you. However, Weedol says just one application a year is needed to control lawn weeds and you can’t complain about that.
On the downside, it doesn’t kill moss which is a shame because now I need to treat with moss killer as well.
Speed Of Results
It was at least 14 days before anything started to happen and I thought the rain showers had washed the product off. It was 2-3 weeks before the plantain started shrivelling up and getting on for a month before the roots showed any signs of damage.
If you want this to work quickly, you’ll be frustrated, but with patience, it does kill lawn weeds.
I think it’s worth taking the time because it’s only a yearly job. It takes a different ‘slow but sure’ approach to the 24-hour quick result ready-made sprays like Roundup Fast Action Weedkiller Pump ‘N Go Ready To Use Spray for example.
Eco-Friendliness
It doesn’t contain glyphosate, the stuff that kills everything including bees, but uses fluroxypyr which is a herbicide used to control broadleaf weeds and woody brush.
It still shouldn’t be used near ponds and has to be kept away from pets and children until dry so it needs some care, but if you want to help out pollinators this is a better choice than weedkillers with glyphosate – if you replace those flowering weeds with nectar-rich flowers of your own of course!
The main issue I have with this product is the lawn clipping problem.
When I mowed after using it the clippings had to be left on the lawn. Following this, the next three lots of clippings need composting for at least 9 months and can’t be disposed of through council schemes.
This is a pain. I don’t tend to compost many grass clippings because it makes the bin go slimy. Unless you have a big composter that can be left for nine months this probably will be an issue for you too.
