Cordless Garden Multi Tool Reviews
- A good option for smaller projects, can be used as both a saw and hedge trimmer
- Pruner/chainsaw can be used to cut small/medium branches
- Excellent battery life offering 45-50 minutes of continuous use
- Powerful cutting action, suitable for most medium-duty jobs
- Battery charges quickly in around 2 hours
- No chainsaw oil included so this will need to be purchased separately
- Can feel a little heavy and unwieldy
For those who want to steer clear of petrol machines, the Greenworks 40V Cordless Garden Multi Tool offers a viable battery-powered alternative.
When it comes to battery-powered machines, the run time is often disappointing, but the Greenworks Multi Tool actually excels in this area. One charge of the 2.0 Ah battery offers approximately 45 – 50 minutes of continuous cutting time, which realistically equates to several hours of work (considering the tool won’t be on consistently throughout). Both the battery and charger come included.
It’s a 2-in-1 machine, so not as versatile as the Mitox 28MT-a or BU-KO Multi Tool featured on this page, but still has plenty of uses.
There is a hedge trimmer attachment, as well as a pruner/chainsaw, and an overall reach of approximately 2 – 2.4 m so a lot of work can be done without the use of a ladder.
The long 51 cm hedge trimmer attachment is more than powerful enough to tackle any hedges in the garden, as well as help with shaping smaller bushes. Its head can be moved through seven positions to find the best angle depending on the job.
When it comes to the pruner/chainsaw, it also offers an impressive amount of power, even capable of cutting some bigger branches ranging near 20 cm in diameter.
As a result, if you’re after battery power, this is one of the best cordless garden multi tools on the market. Whilst it might not have the full versatility of tools with more attachments, it’s a great choice for pruning and tidying hedges, trees and shrubs.

- Chainsaw pruner can cut through branches up to 7 cm in diameter
- Powerful hedge trimmer cuts up to 1.6 cm thick
- At full extension, the chainsaw pruner is 240 cm long making it possible to work without a ladder
- Telescopic pole can be extended without requiring any additional extension pieces
- Not a quick-change between tools as there are five screws/bolts to undo
- Weight distribution feels a little top-heavy, with the motor at the end of the tool
- Relatively heavy when used for prolonged periods
This mains-powered VonHaus 2-in-1 Chainsaw and Trimmer is capable of producing a lot of power to help with hedge-trimming and pruning in the garden.
The chainsaw pruning attachment is fitted with a 20 cm Oregon chain and bar and runs at a substantial 750 W. It can easily cut through hardwood branches up to 7 cm in diameter, making it a very useful tool for plenty of heavier pruning tasks. Plus, because the telescopic pole can extend to give a reach of up to 240 cm, you can avoid getting the ladder out as well.
Then there’s the hedge trimmer attachment which is 45 cm long and capable of cutting through branches up to 1.6 cm thick whilst running at 460 W. Given that the power cable is 10 metres long, you can move relatively freely – especially if an extension cord is used, but you do have to be careful not to cut the wire. However, the main benefit compared to battery- and petrol-powered tools is that you don’t need to stop until the job is complete. Although, this is providing that you can sufficiently support the machine.
The VonHaus 2-in-1 Chainsaw and Trimmer is relatively heavy at 7 kg and, whilst there is a harness which helps distribute the weight, the tool often feels top-heavy. The motor is positioned at the top of the tool, instead of at the handle, so it can be difficult to balance.
At full extension, the whole unit measures 273 cm long with the hedge-trimmer attachment, and 240 cm with the chainsaw attachment.
Coming from a trustworthy name like VonHaus, this tool has a lot working in its favour. It’s powerful and versatile, and avoids using petrol whilst also not requiring any messing around with batteries. The downsides are its weight, top-heavy design, and the system for changing between each tool head. Instead of a quick changeover, there are five bolts to loosen and tighten to change the heads, which can be a little time consuming.
Nevertheless, if you’re after a mains-powered pruner and hedge trimmer, this is one of the best multi tools on the market. The power it yields is sufficient for light-to-medium gardening jobs, and there’s very little preparation required before getting it out in the garden.

- Good value for money considering the number of attachments and accessories included
- Brushcutter blade is made from 40T metal and is powerful enough to cut through bamboo
- Tool can be split into several pieces to help with storage
- Included harness helps distribute the weight and make it more manageable
- Engine is easy to start, generally in 1 - 3 pulls
- Reasonably heavy and can be difficult to manage for prolonged periods - especially with extension pole fitted
- The instructions are not very clear so initial assembly can take a while
- No bag included to keep everything together which would be a useful addition
Given the number of tools and accessories included, as well as the reasonable price tag, the BU-KO Petrol Multi Functional Garden Tool is one of the best cordless garden multi tools – particularly if you’re after value for money.
Powered by a 52 cc petrol motor, this is a 5-in-1 tool. There’s a strimmer, hedge trimmer, pruner, chainsaw and brushcutter – plus, an optional 1 metre extension pole to assist with long-reach jobs.
Of course, assessing the quality of each tool is important as well – it’s no use having loads of options if none of them are up to scratch. Fortunately, customers report that this BU-KO multi-tool continues to offer good value after using the different functions.
The brushcutter is fitted with a metal 40T blade that can powerfully cut through large amount of bamboo, amongst other things, and the strimmer comes pre-loaded with 2.4 mm cutting line. The hedge trimmer can be used to cut branches of around 10 mm in diameter. Also, the head of the multi tool can be rotated through 270°, making it possible to use the hedge trimmer, and other tools, to cut at different angles.
As a petrol machine, this tool may be quite heavy for some people to manage. The different attachments all have slightly different weights, but generally you’ll need to support approximately 8 kg when holding it.
There is a harness included, as well as numerous other accessories such as safety glasses, noise-cancelling ear protectors and gloves. The harness distributes the machine’s weight reasonably well, but some effort is still required – especially when using the tool at its full extension.
When it comes to storage, the poles can all be detached, splitting the tool’s body into two separate sections and making it much smaller and easier to put in the shed, or even the back of a car.
Overall, this is a decent multi tool offering great value for money. Although the pieces may not be as high-quality as more premium models, you still get a lot of useful equipment for a very reasonable price – especially for tackling standard gardening jobs.

- Relatively easy to put together thanks to the clear instructions
- Each tool is straight forward to disconnect and interchange with another
- Suitable for light/medium garden maintenance
- Pruner is fitted with Oregon chain which are well regarded
- Can feel heavy, especially when used extended as hedge trimmer
- No chain lubricant included which needs to be purchased separately before using pruner
If you want a versatile tool that can handle a range of different jobs, the Mitox 28MT-a Multi Tool is a good option to consider.
There’s a grass trimmer, brush cutter, hedge trimmer and pole pruner/chainsaw included. Then, on top of these four tools, there’s an additional 1 m extension pole to help with reach. Although this multi tool describes itself as 5-in-1, it could be argued to be 4-in-1 – it depends how you view the extension pole!
Regardless of how many tools are technically included, it’s still a useful asset to the garden with the functions that it offers. The 2-stroke engine provides 25.4 cc of power and each of the interchangeable heads works as you would expect for light-to-medium gardening work.
Considering the price of some premium-brand multi tools, this still offers good value for money – even though it costs more than the cheaper BU-KO multi tool featured on this page.
Now, for a little more detail on each individual tool. The grass trimmer uses a bump-feed line system and is pre-loaded with 2.4 mm line, and there is a HD 3 tooth blade included for the brushcutter. The hedge trimmer is 58 cm long and can be articulated through 11 different positions (180°) in order to cut at different angles. Then, when it comes to the pruner/chainsaw attachment, it’s been fitted with a 25.4 cm Oregon bar and saw chain which are well known for their quality.
Because of this, the Mitox 28MT-a is one of the best cordless garden multi tools if you want versatility without paying premium prices. Each of the tools offer reasonable quality and are easy to disconnect and interchange. They may not be on par with more premium tools, but they are sufficient for general pruning and maintenance in the garden.

- Suitable for light to medium duty tasks and branches up to 16mm wide
- Chainsaw runs very smoothly and cuts well
- Assembly is very straightforward and takes around 30 minutes
- With a 2.4m reach, this tool can be used to tidy branches above your head
- Well made and durable with quality pieces
- Lacks the power of petrol powered machines
- Feels very heavy when held at an angle
- Minimum length of the arm is still too long to work close to the branches
- Shoulder strap isn’t particularly comfortable
- Does jam quickly if you are cutting through lots of twigs and brush
The eSkde LPHTCS1 Combi Kit is arguably the best cordless garden tool system for landscaping beginners. This tool is exceptionally easy to use, with both a chainsaw and an adjustable trimmer head included. It’s easy to switch between the two functions, while the telescopic handle has a max reach of 2.5m.
Quiet and lightweight, it’s suitable for a range of garden tasks and is easy to transport around your garden. It comes with a supportive shoulder strap so it’s comfortable to use for long periods of time.
If you lack experience with multi tools and require something small and lightweight to get you started in the garden, the eSkde Combi Kit is our top recommendation!
