What To Look For in a Workbench
Workbenches can be classed as either portable (i.e folding) or freestanding (non-folding). The best workbenches should be built to last many years and you definitely pay for what you get in terms of build quality.
As far as portable versions are concerned the best workbenches should be robust enough to support weights of well over 100kg, yet versatile enough to fold down into a profile small enough for easy portability and storage. Typical dimensions for a portable workbench would be in the 800 x 600 x 100mm range and those workbenches should weigh between 10 and 15kg. Non-folding workbenches should be able to support a maximum load of at least 200kg.
Some portable workbenches come with jaws, a very handy feature for supporting large workpieces or items difficult to clamp. Most portable workbenches feature holes and grooves for clamping. Some include clamp pegs and quick clamps too.
