How We Make Money

Affiliate Links

If you landed on this page, you’re probably wondering what is an ‘affiliate link’ and why is there a disclaimer on top of each of our product reviews!

Well, DIY Garden is a reader-supported website. If you decide to purchase one of our recommended products through a third-party, we may earn a small commission, that has no additional cost to you. It’s their way of saying thanks for sending a visitor our way!

Now I just want to emphasize, we have strict editorial standards. We don’t recommend products because they’re the most expensive, we don’t accept incentives to pick inferior products, and we don’t respond to manufacturers looking for preferential treatment.

We select products that we’ve either heavily researched or tested ourselves, and that we believe will benefit our readers. You can read more about how we test and rate products here.

Behind the scenes, we’ve got a team of enthusiast gardeners and DIYers who love to try things, test them, and write about them.

By being a reader-supported site, we’re able to turn our passion into our profession, whilst serving our audience with useful information and well-researched advice.

Advertisements

We also run display ads on DIY Garden, and are part of Mediavine, one of the best ad networks for user experience on the web. Not only is the Mediavine platform very good at not impacting important metrics like website speed, but they also enable us to customise ad delivery too.

We choose to take a conservative approach to display ads, as to not impact our audience’s experience too much.

For example, we operate a ‘low ad density’ within our content (even though the industry recommendation is higher). This means our readers only see in-contact ads sparingly, so it doesn’t negatively impact their page experience.

Why Do We Use Affiliate Links & Ads

DIY Garden is a product review business. Our goal is to real world test as many products in the garden and DIY space as possible. This helps our readers make better buying decisions.

In order to operate, we buy the vast majority of products ourselves, like a normal customer would.

By using affiliate links and ads, we’re able to generate revenue that can be invested back into our product review process. This enables us to buy the products we need to test, and also pay our team of testers and writers to create the many guides you’ll find on our website today.

Affiliate Disclaimer

Now just to touch on something else quickly – you’ll probably notice that the majority of our affiliate links go to Amazon.co.uk. Generally, speaking I feel they have the best offering in terms of speed of delivery, price, stock availability and additional customer reviews.

However we are also looking at how we can give our users a better choice of trusted retailers to select from, should you wish to shop elsewhere.

On certain pages you’ll find price comparison tables, ordered from cheapest to most expensive. This enables our audience to choose where they’d like to make their purchases, whilst finding the best deals too.

Finally, one last disclaimer:

DIY Garden is a participant in the Amazon EU Associates Programme, an affiliate advertising programme designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.co.uk. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

Thank you for taking the time to read this page, and I hope it’s helped you better understand how the site is run and how we work.
