If you want the best plastic shed for a small garden, the Keter Manor Pent Outdoor Garden Storage Shed is ideal. It’s the smallest shed featured here, measuring 1.8 x 1.2 m (6 x 4 ft).

Despite being small, the inner dimensions measure 168.5 x 97 x 195 cm, so there’s still enough room to store garden tools, a bike, a small lawn mower, or any other small belongings. It only has one door, which works well with its design. The door is positioned to one side, so the other side can be used to store items without them getting in the way.

This shed is made from Keter’s signature plastic. It’s durable, fade free and weather resistant. The beige colour, brown accents, and wood-panel effect will make this a smart addition to a variety of outdoor spaces.

For extra security, this plastic shed has a padlock hasp so you can add your own lock. However, it might still be possible for people to break through the plastic construction, so this is something worth bearing in mind.

The plastic shed has one window to provide natural sunlight, so you can see your stored items clearly. There are also two built-in vents to encourage airflow, which helps reduce the likelihood of damp.

The Keter Manor Pent Shed comes with a floor panel included to keep items clean and off the ground. It needs to be placed on a flat surface and you might want to reinforce the base to make it more durable, particularly if you’ll be storing heavy items in your shed.

As with the other plastic sheds on this page, assembly is required. It can be a bit tricky, especially when it comes to putting the shed roof on. The process is easier with two people, so that one person can hold the frame steady. This plastic shed takes around four hours to put together.

Once assembled, this little shed is compact, durable and easy to maintain. It’s one of the best plastic sheds for small gardens thanks to its size, build quality and design. It looks smart, is large enough to store several items, and comes with a floor panel included.

If you’ve not got a lot of space for a large walk-in shed, the Keter Store It Out Pro Outdoor Storage Shed is a great alternative. This plastic shed measures 142 x 82 x 123 cm. There should be enough space for garden furniture, small tools or two x 240 L wheelie bins thanks to the 1200 L capacity.

This shed is heavy duty, maintenance free, and comes with a built-in floor panel. The outer panels, that form the shed itself, have a subtle faux-wood-effect which is very subtle, and the shed has great weather resistance. It shouldn’t fade in strong sunlight, although you may find the top warps slightly if it gets too hot. Like all plastic sheds, it’s important that this model is built on a level surface to prevent warping.

Onto the assembly: this plastic shed is relatively straight forward to assemble though you still need a fair amount of patience. Once put together, this plastic shed feels strong and sturdy, although it may need securing in very strong winds (depending on what is in it). It weighs 28 kg and can easily be lifted to your preferred spot.

Designed with easy opening in mind, this storage shed has a hydraulic top lid. This is easy for anyone to open and won’t slam shut. It also comes with a bin opening kit which allows you to open the lid of your bins as you open the lid of the plastic shed.

There are also doors which can be opened outwards, and a padlock fitting which allows you to secure the shed closed.

All in all, this plastic shed is one of the best on the market if you’re looking for somewhere space-efficient and stylish to store your wheelie bins.

If you’ve not got a huge amount of space, the Lifetime 60209 Vertical Storage Shed is another good option. This storage shed measures 74 x 142 x 174 cm. It doesn’t take up much floor space, but the height means there’s still plenty of room inside.

Once assembled, this plastic shed feels very good quality. It’s water resistant, so whatever you’re storing should be protected from the elements. It’s also maintenance free thanks to the plastic construction.

This plastic shed weighs 47 kg, so would take a very strong gust of wind to move it. It’s also resistant to cracking, chipping and peeling. As it’s steel reinforced, this shed has a strong and durable frame.

Talking of assembly, this plastic shed is relatively easy to get set up. There’s an online installation video which can be easily followed, although some of the pre-drilled holes don’t always line up. For this reason, you will likely need a couple of power tools.

This shed has double doors that open wide to allow you easy access to the inside. There’s also a padlock hasp (although no padlock) so you can lock it securely.

Overall, this storage shed is a great option to use for equipment storage. It makes it very easy to access your things, and its tall height can accommodate a lot of stuff. Plus, shelves could potentially be installed for smaller items if needed.

The Keter 230256 Manor Outdoor Garden Storage Shed is a great all-rounder, making it one of the best plastic sheds on the market. It’s made from extremely durable plastic with a double door structure, making it weather-resistant and accessible.

This plastic shed comes in a beige colour with stylish brown accents, which is sleek and neutral – suitable for a range of gardens and styles. The plastic is fade-resistant and maintenance free.  The panelling is moulded to have a ‘wood-effect’ look which enhances the appearance of the shed.

This shed measures 1.8 x 2.4 m (6 x 8 ft) which means it’s extremely roomy inside, with plenty of space to fit your gardening supplies, bike, or BBQ for example. There is also a smaller size available, measuring 1.8 x 1.5 m.

The double doors allow easy access to your stored items. They open wide, with the inner edge of the door frame measuring 182 x 133 cm. This means there’s no difficulty in storing and retrieving larger items. The plastic shed doors feature a padlock hasp, which allows you to slide the lock closed and add your own padlock for extra security.

The only additional comment to make about security is that it’s worth bearing in mind the shed’s plastic construction. It’s not necessarily the strongest building material, so you may decide against storing high-value items inside.

There are ventilation ducts at either end to ensure good air circulation and prevent damp. There’s also a window on the side of the shed offering some natural light so you can see what you are doing when inside. However, it’s worth noting that since there’s only one window you may need a torch on dull days.

The Keter Manor Shed comes with a floor panel included to keep your stored items clean and dry – something that not all plastic sheds offer. If you are storing a lot of heavy items, you may decide it’s worth reinforcing the base.

As with the other plastic sheds featured on this page, this Keter Manor Shed comes flat packed. It weighs 71.7 kg and the individual sections are fairly lightweight, but it’s best to have two people on hand to make assembly easier. Assembly is straightforward and detailed instructions are included, but it is time consuming. This plastic shed can take three to six hours to put together. It’s very important that the shed is constructed on a level base, otherwise the pieces are unlikely to line up properly.

All things considered, this is the best plastic shed overall. It is sturdy and weather resistant, looks smart, and has plenty of storage space inside. It’s an excellent all-rounder.

Plastic storage sheds are rarely as attractive as wooden sheds, but the Duramax StoreAway Plastic Garden Storage Shed is almost there! This plastic shed has a smart wood-effect finish that looks at home in most gardens.

This shed measures 145 x 85 x 125 cm which makes it suitable for compact areas if needed. It’s ideal for gardening equipment, bikes, BBQs and outdoor accessories. There’s space to install two shelves if needed

It’s UV protected so it shouldn’t warp in the sunshine, although it’s worth noting that it’s not fully waterproof as there are small gaps between the lid and the sides. It’s made from durable polypropylene resin which is maintenance free.

This plastic shed is also the perfect spot for wheelie bins. It can fit two bins with a capacity of 240 L each, while the integrated chain means you can open the bin lids at the same time as the lid of the storage shed. You can open and throw away your rubbish in one easy movement.

Another benefit of this plastic shed is that there are hydraulic pistons. This means the lid opens easily and stays open. It also won’t slam shut. Both the doors and lid open widely for easy accessibility.

This storage shed is also extremely easy to clean. As it’s plastic, it can simply be wiped or hosed down.

It’s worth noting that assembly can be a little tricky. A power drill may be required, as well as other power tools. Once assembled it feels relatively sturdy, although it weighs just 25 kg, so may need securing in strong winds if you’re not storing anything heavy inside.

Overall, this storage shed is one of the best on the market if you’re looking for a compact plastic shed with a pleasing wood-effect finish.

The Lifetime 60190 Heavy Duty Plastic Shed is one of the best plastic sheds for natural light.

It has a skylight that runs along the top, as well as one small window which can be positioned on either side. This allows for plenty of natural sunlight, which will give much better visibility inside the shed, particularly compared to those with only one window.

It measures 2.1 x 2.1 m (7 x 7 ft) and will be suitable for medium or large gardens. It’s large enough to fit a number of gardening tools and a wheelbarrow or lawn mower, for example.

There are a couple of design elements that are used to reinforce the structure of the shed. Once built, it feels sturdy. There is a steel frame, which uses 18 gauge steel, to support the structural integrity of the roof. The shed also features a double wall system to increase strength and resist impact damage. It is able to withstand turbulent UK weather, and doesn’t leak either.

The exterior of the shed is weather-resistant plastic in a stylish beige colour with brown accents and doors. It’s made to have a ‘wood-effect’ appearance, similarly to many of the plastic sheds featured here. The plastic is fade and UV resistant and it’s also very low maintenance to keep clean.

A strong, impact-resistant shed base comes included. It’s important that the shed is built on a flat, level surface – either a concrete pad, wood platform, or steel platform.

This plastic shed also comes with two air vents, positioned at either end of the shed. These provide airflow and help to prevent a build up of damp. For additional ventilation, the window can be opened.

There are double doors on this shed and they open wide to ensure you can access your stored objects with ease. The plastic they are made from feels a little weaker than the rest of the shed – this is worth bearing in mind before storing high-value items inside. Nevertheless, there’s a solid sliding lock that you can attach a padlock to, to increase the security somewhat.

When it comes to assembly, the instructions are good but there are a lot of individual screws and parts that need fitting. It therefore requires quite a lot of patience to put together – assembly takes around five hours. It’s best to have two people on hand, and build in situ. This shed is fairly heavy, weighing 75kg.

Overall, this durable shed is a great option to use as either storage space or as a workspace. It’s one of the best plastic sheds for natural light, thanks to the skylight, which means it can be used as a workspace for hobbies as well as storage.

If you’re looking for the best plastic shed for large gardens, the Duramax Woodbridge II Plastic Garden Shed should definitely be on your radar. Measuring ‎3.3 x 2.5 m (10.5 x 8 ft), this large shed is big enough to hold all your garden equipment or even a small home gym!

The plastic shed is supported by a strong metal frame, with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic panels making up the main construction. They are low maintenance, weather-resistant, and even fire resistant.

There are two fixed windows included to provide natural lighting and a ventilation kit included to help with airflow. This shed can sometimes suffer from condensation, so it may be necessary to find alternative ways to approach this – ventilation, dehumidifiers or absorbent charcoal, for example.

The large double doors are approximately 180 cm tall and open wide. This allows easy access to stored items and means that even large items can be removed from the shed without difficulty. The doors aren’t fitting with any kind of sliding bolt, which is present on most plastic sheds featured here. There are padlock eyes though, so it can be locked to keep the doors closed.

There is no floor provided with this shed. Instead, it comes with a metal-frame floor which you can put your chosen flooring over.

In terms of assembly, this shed takes a long time to put together – even compared to the other sheds on this page. It takes around 10 hours to assemble. The instructions are reasonably clear, although they’re predominantly pictorial – a style that can take some getting used to. Also, the shed weighs 130 kg, making it one of the heaviest featured here.

Overall, this is one of the best plastic sheds for large gardens. It’s a great size, with plenty of space inside, a durable PVC and metal construction, and large double doors. It’s practical and good value for money considering the size and material quality.

The KETER Factor Resin Shed is one of the best plastic sheds if you want a quality design. It’s a large, strong shed, with a lot of nice design features.

For starters, this plastic garden shed includes two shelves with built-in shelf support (the only shed featured here with included shelves), and it’s possible to add more if desired. It’s also one of only two sheds on this page that feature a skylight. There is both a skylight and a window which allow in plenty of sunlight. If you want to use your shed as a craft or workspace, as well as a storage space, this large shed could be a good option to consider.

It measures 3.4 x 2.4 m (11 x 8 ft) making it ideal for big gardens or those who want to store large items in their shed. You can easily store your lawn mower, garden tools, ladders, and more in this shed. It’s also available in a slightly smaller 2.4 x 2.4 m (8 x 8 ft) size.

The shed is made from durable resin plastic and has a metal frame. It’s therefore low maintenance and fade-resistant. The plastic is moulded to imitate wood grain, including wood knots, which makes it more aesthetically interesting and less uniform.

Weighing just over 181 kg, this is the heaviest shed featured here. The benefit of this is that it’s very sturdy, with a solid construction, even when it’s windy outside.

It’s equipped with large double doors that open wide. These allow you to easily access your stored items. Each door is fitted with a sturdy handle, and there is a twist lock to hold the doors closed. This can be fitted with a padlock for additional security.

A sturdy floor panel is included with this shed. You’ll also need to place it on a solid, even base to keep it stable. This is even more important if you’re storing heavy items.

When it comes to assembly, the process is straightforward but relatively consuming. It takes around six hours to put together. Assembly is made easier with the help of a second person – the roof, in particular, can be difficult to attach to the rest of the shed.

As mentioned, one of the unique things about this shed is that it comes with two shelves. These are provided along with the brackets required to install them. This allows you to store your tools and other items in a safe, organised way. Also, vents are included in the roof to ensure there’s plenty of airflow. These work well, as it’s reported that this shed doesn’t suffer from much condensation.

Overall, although this Keter shed is one of the most expensive options here, it’s the best plastic shed in terms of quality. It’s stable, water resistant and spacious. Plus, the extra addition of shelves and a skylight make it more versatile than a lot of plastic sheds.

The Keter Scala Outdoor Garden Storage Shed is worth considering if you’re after the best shed for medium gardens. It measures approximately 1.8 x 1.5 m (6 x 5 ft), making it compact enough to fit in your garden yet big enough to hold your garden equipment. You can also buy it in a slightly larger size if you’d like some more room.

It’s also one of the best plastic sheds if you’re on a budget, coming in at a much more affordable price than some models.

In many ways, this traditional-looking plastic garden shed also resembles a summer house, so there are lots of ways that it could be used. It is a beautiful dark brown colour and has a wood panel effect, so its appearance will fit in with both contemporary and conventional gardens.

Despite being a more compact size, this shed features wide double doors that open wide to allow easy access to your stored items. The doors are fitted with a sliding bolt and padlock hasp so you can attach a padlock for extra security.

There are two large windows on the doors to allow in plenty of sunlight. When the doors are open, there’s plenty of light coming in through the entrance so you will always be able to see what you’re doing. As with the other sheds here, there are built-in vents for airflow.

The shed is sturdy and durable thanks to its metal frame and plastic construction. The plastic is low maintenance, has good weather resistance, and keeps items dry inside. A floor panel is included, but as with other models it will need to be reinforced with a base underneath.

As standard, this shed needs to be assembled upon arrival. It weighs 55 kg in total, so the parts aren’t too heavy to manage during assembly. It’s fairly straightforward to put together, and reasonably quick compared to some – it will take around three to five hours to assemble. This time is based on two people working on it.

To conclude, this is one of the best plastic sheds for medium gardens, and it’s also a great budget-friendly option. It’s very aesthetically pleasing, durable and functional.

Designed for areas without a lot of vertical space, the Lifetime Heavy Duty Low Plastic Shed measures 191 x 108 x 132 cm. This broad but narrow design makes it a good size for garden equipment and smaller tools.

This plastic shed boasts good weather resistance. It’s UV protected so shouldn’t fade nor crack in bright sunlight, while the stain resistant exterior is maintenance free. The attractive appearance means it looks good in most gardens or outside the front of your home.

With enough space to store two wheelie bins, this plastic garden storage shed will keep your rubbish discreetly out of sight. The hydraulic pistons on the lid means the lid stays open while you dispose of your bin bags. The doors also open widely for easy access when you want to take your bin out.

This storage shed is also easy to secure. While it’ll never be fully secure (being made from plastic), the doors and lid can be locked with the addition of a padlock.

In terms of assembly, it takes a while to put this storage shed together. There are over 134 nuts, bolts and screws included, so there are a lot of pieces. A decent drill is required as some of the pre-drilled holes don’t line up.

Although assembly can be a bit challenging, there’s a lot to love about this plastic garden storage shed. Once installed, it’s a heavy duty plastic shed which offers good storage for wheelie bins or tools.

Clive's Smart Buying Tips

  1. In the UK, standard garden sheds measure 2.4 x 1.8m (8 x 6ft). This is a good size to choose if you want to use your plastic shed to store the majority of your gardening equipment. For small gardens, I recommend choosing a low-level plastic storage shed – this will still allow storage for BBQs, lawn mowers and other items, but shouldn’t overwhelm limited space.
  2. Look for materials like plastic resin, PVC (vinyl) and HDPE (high-density polyethylene). These are weather-proof, fade-resistant, and easy to maintain – everything you want from a plastic storage shed.
  3. The best plastic sheds will have vents to help with airflow. This is really important for keeping condensation to a minimum. Also, I recommend looking for garden sheds that have a window – this can help when searching for things at the back!
  4. An additional benefit of plastic sheds is that there are lots of attractive and natural looking colours available. Lighter options can look more contemporary, whilst darker colours often fit in well with traditional gardens. For added aesthetic appeal, you might want to look for plastic that has been moulded to look like wood.

After comparing a range of plastic sheds, my top choice is the Keter Store It Out Pro Outdoor Storage Shed. This plastic shed is an fantastic all-rounder, with plenty of room for garden tools, furniture cushions or wheelie bins.

How to Choose The Best Plastic Shed

Plastic sheds are an excellent option for storing garden equipment and tools, as well as other items such as bikes, BBQs, and garden furniture.

They’re a low-maintenance choice compared to traditional wooden sheds because they don’t rot, rust, or require painting. Plastic sheds are popular with all sorts of users because they’re weatherproof, easy to assemble, and can often be moved if needed, making them a great choice all round.

To help you choose the best shed, I’ve put together the following guide so you know what to look out for (and what to avoid!).

Getting the Right Size

The first thing you need to consider is the size of the plastic shed. Think about the size of your garden, in particular you should keep in mind that you need somewhere with an even, solid surface to install your garden shed.

Measure the area you have in mind carefully and compare it to the external dimensions of the shed to make sure it will fit. You also need to take the size of the doors into consideration to ensure they have enough room to open fully so you can access your shed.

Check the internal dimensions of the shed as well – these can sometimes differ to the exterior dimensions by up to 20 cm. You also need to think about any shelves or freestanding storage units you want to install in your garden shed, as these will encroach on the space.

One of the most commonly found garden shed sizes in the UK is 1.8 x 2.4 m (6 x 8 ft). When you think of a typical shed, it’s quite possible that you’ll be imagining this size. These will probably be large enough to fit the majority of your garden equipment. Smaller garden sheds can still be used to store lawn mowers, BBQs etc.

Plastic Sheds With an Included Base

A lot of plastic garden sheds will come with an included base. This can be useful for keeping items inside the garden shed clean and off the ground. The benefit of a base being included is that it will generally fit the shed well, reducing the likelihood of gaps.

Included bases will generally be made from plastic. It’s good practise to reinforce these, even if they feel quite strong. A lot of gardeners put wood or paving slabs under the base to give it more support. This is particularly important if you will be storing heavy items in the shed.

Some sheds will come with no floor, although they may have a metal frame on the bottom to make installing your own floor easier. This can be useful as it gives you more flexibility when it comes to floor material; however, adding your own floor will mean an additional cost.

Natural Light

Most plastic garden sheds often come with at least one window as standard to allow in sunlight.

Generally, you will also have the door open when doing things in the shed, so visibility shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

However, if you want to use the shed as some form of work station – either as a potting shed, or for doing crafts etc. you may appreciate more natural light.

For these situations, the best garden sheds will have several windows or even a skylight. A skylight provides a lot of natural light, which is great if you will be working inside the shed or using it more frequently.

Durable Construction Materials

Plastic sheds are typically made from polyvinyl chloride, otherwise known as PVC (sometimes referred to as vinyl!) or high-density polyethene (HDPE). Plastic resin is another material which is frequently used to make plastic sheds.

These are synthetic materials that are highly durable, weather-resistant, and easy to maintain. They’re designed to last over time and stand up to changes in weather without rotting, rusting, or fading.

If you want to enhance durability, look for a plastic garden storage shed that is reinforced with a sturdy metal frame.

Security With Plastic Sheds

It is generally accepted that plastic sheds offer slightly less security compared to wooden sheds or metal sheds. This is because they are lighter and it is technically possible to cut through them.

If the garden shed doors are fitted with padlock eyes, and a padlock is threaded through them, it would not be too difficult for a thief to cut through the padlock eyes and remove the padlock.

This is something to be aware of when buying a plastic garden storage shed. Some people choose not to store high-value items in plastic sheds for this reason.

You could add a security camera, motion sensor light, or shed alarm for additional security.

Ease of Assembly

The majority of plastic sheds will arrive flat packed and need to be assembled. They typically come with clear instructions or an easy-to-follow video. I would always recommend having two people on hand when building a plastic shed. There are a couple of ways this can help.

Firstly, plastic sheds can be pretty flimsy in the middle of the assembly process. Therefore, it can help to have someone supporting the structure whilst the other person adds to the build. Secondly, it can be quite difficult to get the roof onto plastic sheds and having a second person can make this a lot easier.

Another useful tip is to assemble the plastic garden shed in situ, where you want it to be positioned in the garden. A “lightweight” plastic garden storage shed will weigh around 60 kg – you might be able to move this with the help of three or four people. However, some heavy plastic sheds weigh around 180 kg which will be extremely difficult to move.

If you struggle with DIY, look for a plastic garden storage shed that comes with an option to pay to have it assembled when it’s delivered. Alternatively, you could always pay to have a professional come and install it for you.

Plastic Garden Shed FAQs

Depending on the shed’s make and how it’s constructed, there may be an option to add shelves. Some plastic garden sheds come with recesses that are specifically set up for you to attach shelves – these are the best option to choose if you want shelves in your shed. I wouldn’t recommend drilling into a plastic garden storage shed without checking with the manufacturer.

Alternatively, you could choose to use freestanding shelves, which are fairly affordable to buy and come in a range of styles and sizes. The only problem is that these will use up floor space.

Preparing the ground for your plastic shed base is key to ensuring it’s durable and impact-resistant. First of all, you need even ground to install it on. You can level the ground yourself or choose somewhere in your garden that is already level. Make sure the area you choose is strong enough to carry the weight of your shed.

To extend the life of your plastic garden storage shed, you may want to first lay a weed membrane, which stops weeds from growing under your shed. There are a few different ways you can then prepare the shed’s foundation. You could use a concrete pad, wooden deck, or plastic grid base. If you use a plastic grid base, you might choose to fill in the spaces in the grid with pea gravel to make the base even more sturdy.

Then, you can go ahead and build your shed on top of the base.
