This Handy Electric H-frame Cement Mixer is an excellent all-rounder. It has a reliable 550 W motor that works well to power the 125 L drum and is suitable for small/medium DIY jobs.

The motor is quick to start, turning the rotating drum and mixing paddle at a speed of 26.6 RPM. This cement mixer works well to quickly and evenly combine gravel, sand, cement and water into a mix that’s suitable for pouring – perfect for anyone redoing their patio or driveway.

With an overall mixing volume of 90 L, this portable electric mixer is best for domestic jobs. It’s too compact for commercial work, but can run for extended periods without overheating the motor. It can be tilted and swivelled through 360° using its crank wheel, making the concrete mixture easy to pour into a bucket or wheelbarrow from multiple angles.

Although this concrete mixer weighs a pretty substantial 52 kg, it’s surprisingly portable. There are wheels on the base of the sturdy frame for transporting it across smooth surfaces.

Assembly is straightforward although it can help to have an extra pair of hands to fit the drum. It takes approximately one hour to put together and the instructions are clear.

Be aware that the power cord is reasonably short at 1.7 m. For those looking to redo an area at the end of their garden, an extension cable will be needed.

Overall, this high-power concrete mixer strikes the perfect balance of size, ease of use and reliability. It’s a viable choice if you want a good all rounder, with a quality motor that means it has sufficient power to mix concrete for most domestic jobs.

2. Charles Bentley Portable Cement Mixer

Best for professional projects

best cement mixer B003U9QYE4
  • 113 L mixing volume makes it suitable for most medium-size DIY jobs
  • Overall sturdy build
  • Drum rotates 360° to make unloading easier
  • Good value for money considering the power and price

  • It is not clear from the instructions which way round the paddles go
  • Wheels aren’t the best over uneven ground
  • Power lead may not be long enough for some users

The Charles Bentley Portable Cement Mixer is ideal for professional projects and offers good value for money.

This electric concrete mixer has a 113 L mixing volume which is equivalent to approximately 1.5 wheelbarrows. It works efficiently to mix concrete thanks to its 550 W motor.

It’s suitably powerful and large enough for medium jobs around the home and garden, whether you’re laying shed foundations or putting down paving. It’s sturdy and stable thanks to the powder-coated steel frame.

The drum rotates through 360° on its stand and there’s a wheel crank which makes it simple to smoothly tip the concrete mixture into a bucket or wheelbarrow.

For the most part, assembly is fairly simple; the instructions are illustrated and reasonably clear. The main issue that can occur during assembly is knowing which way round to fix the paddles (which can cause confusion with a lot of cement mixers).

While this concrete mixer weighs 45.5 kg, it’s fairly manoeuvrable thanks to the two wheels, although it can struggle over uneven ground so is best wheeled over flat areas.

All in all, this is the best concrete mixer if you’ve got professional jobs you need to tackle.

This large Excel Portable Cement Mixer is the best value cement mixer. It has a spacious drum volume of 140 L and a powerful 550 W motor. Yet, despite its large size, this mixer is around the same price as the smaller electric mixers featured here.

This concrete mixer is a good option for larger jobs thanks to its large drum capacity. It does a good job mixing cement, mortar and concrete, ideal for home improvement work. Once mixed, the material can be tipped into a bucket or wheelbarrow using the large crank wheel handle.

Unlike the other cement mixers featured here, this reasonably large mixer is also a good choice for small professional projects on a job site. The construction and steel frame are solid and sturdy, so it’s suitable for reasonably frequent use.

This mixer uses mains power and has a drum speed of 34 rpm. The angle of the mixer can be adjusted, allowing you to load and unload in the most convenient way.

There aren’t many downsides to this machine, although it’s worth bearing in mind that the larger size may complicate storage.

Overall, this is the best value cement mixer. Thanks to the larger capacity, this concrete mixer is more versatile than others featured here. If you’re looking for a home mixer but you’ve got a few larger tasks to tackle, this is a great option to consider.

An extremely reliable machine for small building projects, this T-Mech Electric Cement Mixer is perfect for laying new paths and driveways. It’s a great option for domestic jobs and packs a surprising punch despite its reasonably compact size.

With a 70 L drum capacity, this portable concrete mixer is a good option for at-home projects, or work that’s being completed offsite. It’s motor is 250 W and you can fit an entire bag of chippings into the drum, alongside half a bag of sharp sand and enough cement to create a decent mix. Therefore, it’s got a lot of potential, whether you’re redoing your patio or helping out at a mate’s house.

The drum volume translates to a mixing output of 46 L. That’s around half a wheelbarrow’s worth of mortar mix/cement. Running at 240 V, it can be plugged into any residential power socket and set to work.

It’s also easy to move around, as it’s one of the lightest cement mixers featured here, weighing 30 kg.

Assembly takes approximately two hours, which is arguably longer than you might expect for such a small, portable concrete mixer. The instructions need to be followed carefully and there are some videos on YouTube which can make the process easier. This cement mixer is also reasonably noisy, despite its small size.

Overall, if you’re getting stuck into some small-scale DIY projects and you want an affordable and effective mixer that doesn’t take up a huge amount of space, this is a useful option to add to the shed.

If you’ve got a couple of smaller projects to tackle and you want a mixer that’s easy to handle, the Hyundai Electric Cement Mixer is a great choice. This portable electric mixer weighs just 25.5 kg, making it the most lightweight model for mixing cement.

Designed for small-scale building projects, this concrete mixer has a 63 L drum capacity which can mix up to 47 L. This equates to approximately half a wheelbarrow of mixed material – perfect for small-scale projects.

It has a 220 W Hyundai engine which creates a powerful and reliable cement mixer. It can be plugged into the mains and has a 3 m cable for easy placement. The drum mouth is 26 cm wide which helps with loading.

The steel frame is sturdy and supportive. In total, this concrete mixer stands at 116 cm, meaning that it’s possible to unload the mix into a small wheelbarrow (as well as a bucket) which isn’t always the case with all small, ‘portable’ cement mixers.

Also, not only is this machine lightweight, it’s also supported by two puncture-proof wheels which give more stability across a range of surfaces.

Overall, it’s a great choice for small, domestic projects and is one of the best cement mixers if you want a lightweight, portable option. When it comes to manoeuvrability, this mixer triumphs.

6. Wolf Electric Concrete Mixer

The Wolf Electric Concrete Mixer is the second-largest electric concrete mixer featured on this page. As well as being suitable for medium/large domestic jobs, it also benefits from being very easy to assemble. This cement mixer comes with informative instructions that make it straightforward to get up and running – assembly takes approximately one hour.

The mixer is fitted with a 550 W motor (significantly more powerful than the ~250 W cement mixers featured here), and has a drum volume of 135 L. The opening of the rotating drum is 38.3 cm, making it possible to easily shovel material.

An additional benefit of this cement mixer is that it runs quietly.

Despite its large size, this cement mixer is manoeuvrable and easy to store. The stand can be removed, meaning the unit can be stored in two parts. Just be aware that the drum unit has wheels on the bottom to aid transportation, but the stand does not. This means that to transport the mixer, you’ll need to take it apart. On the plus side, this cement mixer is reasonably lightweight for its size, weighing 45.5 kg which will help with manoeuvrability.

Overall, we’ve chosen this model as the best mixer for larger jobs due to a combination of factors: its size, power, weight, ease of assembly and low noise output. It’s not quite the largest unit featured here, but it has a lot of elements working in its favour for completing larger projects.

The Scheppach ECO MIX Electric Cement Mixer is a reliable yet basic machine. It’s suitable for small/medium DIY jobs and doesn’t overcomplicate things. The machine has a welded bottom drum and fully enclosed cast iron gears. Its motor is protected by labyrinth housing, cooled by dual fans.

This cement mixer has a drum volume of 120 L which is a good size whether you’re laying paving or redoing a driveway. It has a wide metal drum, suitable for loading with a shovel, and is tall enough to fit a wheelbarrow underneath for unloading.

To use, simply switch the machine on and allow the 550 W motor to do its job. This machine can be plugged into the mains so there’s no need for a transformer.

It weighs 43.8 kg and is fitted with wheels to make it easier to manoeuvre over the majority of garden terrain.

If you’re getting stuck into some medium-size projects around the house, or you want a reliable tool for extra projects when you’re not on the job site, this is a good option to consider. It’s the best cement mixer if you want an uncomplicated, basic model.

It’s also reasonably simple to assemble, with generally clear instructions and fixings that are neatly compartmentalised.

Harry's Smart Buying Tips

  1. For small, household DIY projects, you’ll want a cement mixer with a mixing capacity of around 45 – 90 L. For reference, a 90 L mixing capacity will give you a full barrow-load of cement/mortar.
  2. One benefit of small cement mixers are they are easy to store and transport. A portable electric model, weighing around 30 kg, will be more manageable to move around, e.g., up steps or over difficult terrain (though you might have to mix cement in smaller batches). For easier transportation and storage, consider a cement mixer that divides into two pieces.
  3. No matter the size of mixer you choose, look for a model with wheels to help with moving around the house and garden.
  4. As you’ll see from the machines listed below, I recommend using an electric cement mixer for domestic jobs rather than a petrol machine. Mains-powered cement mixers are good value for money, require little maintenance, and don’t emit fumes.
  5. In order to easily load a wheelbarrow with cement, make sure to choose a mixer with a stand of around 100 cm. The wheelbarrow needs to fit easily underneath.

I’ve chosen the T-Mech Electric Cement Mixer as my top recommendation. This compact cement mixer works very well. It comes with a stand, and has a 70 L drum volume and 46 L capacity making it ideal for domestic jobs. It runs at 240 V so can plug into any residential power socket.
