A common complaint with cordless lawnmowers is a poor battery life. And there’s no denying that a battery which runs out of juice mid-way through a mow is immensely frustrating.

The LawnMaster 24V 34cm Cordless Lawnmower is our top pick if it’s battery life you value over anything else. It comes with 2 x 24 V rechargeable batteries. Each battery runs for approximately 30 minutes, but this will vary depending on the type of grass.

LawnMaster-24V-34cm-Cordless-Lawnmower-Review-power

This is thanks to the ‘intelligent battery management’, which adjusts the power according to the conditions. Wet grass will signal to the mower that more power is required, while it’ll conserve battery life when cutting in dry conditions.

This mower is lightweight, easy to use and great for small to medium lawns. It has a rear roller which produces clear stripes, as well as a mulching plug.

LawnMaster-24V-34cm-Cordless-Lawnmower-Review-performance

It’s fitted with a durable carbon steel blade, with seven cutting heights to choose from, ranging from 20 mm to 70 mm. It offers a shorter cut than others on the market, which have a minimum cutting height of 25 mm or even 30 mm. As a result, this mower produces a smart and neat cut every time.

In terms of comfort, the handles are adjustable to accommodate any height of gardener. It’s easy to use and manoeuvre, as it weighs just 11.4 kg.

LawnMaster-24V-34cm-Cordless-Lawnmower-Review-manoeuvrability

With a 34 cm cutting width, it’s suitable for small/medium lawns, up to 300 m². The 32 L grass bag is spacious enough, but there’s also a mulch plug included if you’d prefer to deposit the clippings back onto your lawn.

It’s worth noting that the grass collection box is slightly difficult to attach the mower to. There’s also ventilation holes in the bottom which allow some grass clippings to spill back onto the lawn.

It’s been designed for easy storage. The grass collection box folds flat and the mower itself can be stored upright.

Overall, this is one of the best cordless mowers if you’re after a good quality battery. It’s unlikely to run out of juice mid-mow thanks to the intelligent battery management system, which is a feature not many others have. Plus, the inclusion of two batteries means you’re covered if it does run out.

When it comes to finding the perfect cordless lawnmower for small to medium gardens, the Einhell Power X-Change 18/33 stands out as the best new model on the market. It offers exceptional value for money, combining cordless convenience, powerful performance, and user-friendly features that make lawn maintenance effortless.

From the moment I unboxed the Einhell Power X-Change 18/33, it was clear this was a well-designed machine. Lightweight yet sturdy, it features an impact-resistant plastic housing that can handle overgrown areas without issue. Assembly was simple, and the folding handle ensures it doesn’t take up much space in storage—perfect for smaller sheds and garages.

Powered by Einhell’s PurePOWER Brushless Motor, this mower delivers more efficiency, longer run times, and zero maintenance compared to traditional carbon brush motors. The 4.0Ah lithium-ion battery included in the kit provides plenty of power to cut through dense grass while maintaining a quiet and smooth operation. With a cutting width of 33cm, it’s ideal for lawns up to 200 square meters, making it the perfect choice for small and medium-sized gardens.

One of the biggest advantages of this mower is its 5-level central cutting height adjustment, ranging from 25mm to 65mm. Whether you need a fine, short trim or a longer cut for thicker grass, adjusting the height is effortless. The large rear wheels ensure smooth movement, even over uneven terrain, while minimizing damage to the lawn. The long handle is height-adjustable with three different settings, providing added comfort for users of varying heights.

The 30L grass collection box is a practical size for smaller gardens, reducing the number of times you need to stop and empty it. The fill level indicator is a nice touch, letting you know when it’s time to dispose of clippings. When the job is done, the lightweight design and integrated carry handle make transportation easy, while the folding handle ensures compact storage.

The Einhell Power X-Change 18/33 Cordless Lawnmower is the best new cordless mower for small to medium gardens this year. With strong battery life, a brushless motor for maintenance-free operation, and multiple cutting height options, it’s a powerful yet affordable choice for homeowners who want hassle-free lawn care. If you’re looking for a value-packed cordless mower that offers convenience, efficiency, and great performance, this is the one to buy.

greenworks cordless lawn mower review front

If you’ve got an overgrown garden, or the tendency to let your lawn grow long, the Greenworks Cordless Lawnmower is best equipped to handle long grass. This is thanks to the maximum cutting height of 80 mm, which is much longer than other cordless models on the market.

The shortest cutting height is 25 mm, so you’re able to still get a neat and short cut if needed. It’s great for large gardens (up to 440m²), as clippings can be collected in the 50 L collection bag or mulched into fine pieces to save you emptying the bag. The 41 cm cutting width ensures it’s efficient across open stretches of lawn.

It comes equipped with 2 x 4 Ah batteries, each with around a 30 minute run time. However, this does vary between users, and in tougher conditions, the batteries will drain a lot faster.

greenworks cordless lawn mower battery review

There’s 17 cm rear wheels which make it easy to move over different terrains, including bumpy and undulating ground. The handle folds down for easy storage.

Having said that, this mower is heavy. While it’s fairly manoeuvrable, it still weighs over 23 kg, which is almost double the weight of some of the other models mentioned on this list.

There’s 6 cutting heights to choose from, ranging from 25 mm to 80 mm. While the 80 mm setting is perfect for longer grass, you can still get a super smart cut using the 25 mm setting.

greenworks cordless lawn mower review

Overall, this mower is arguably the best on the market for long grass. It’s designed more like a petrol mower than an electric model, with a range of cutting heights and a large collection box. If you don’t mind a heavier machine, this model is well worth considering.

4. Ryobi 18V ONE+ Cordless Lawnmower

Best budget cordless lawn mower

the best cordless lawn mowers Ryobi 18V ONE+ Cordless Lawnmower
  • Very easy assembly takes just five minutes
  • Extremely lightweight, making it one of the easiest lawn mowers out there to push and manoeuvre
  • Five cutting height settings give you plenty of choice
  • Comes with a mulching plug, meaning that you don’t need to use the collection basket and can instead release nutrients back onto your lawn
  • Collapses down well for storage - it doesn’t take up much shed space at all
  • The taller rear wheels keep the lawn mower stable on rough ground

  • With a life of just 10-15 minutes, the battery runtime is very short, even with a 5aH battery
  • When the handles are set to their tallest height, the cable feels very tight and could potentially be a safety hazard
  • In order to change the cutting height, the machine needs to be turned onto its side/back, which is very inconvenient
  • The 35-litre collection basket is quite small, meaning you’ll have to stop quite often to empty it
  • Overheats and cuts out when used on long grass

Ryobi 18V ONE+ Cordless Brushless Lawn Mower Review - Performance

Ryobi’s budget-friendly yet reliable products appeal to many, with the Ryobi 18V ONE+ Cordless Brushless Lawn Mower being one of these. Being very familiar with Ryobi’s products made me excited to be putting this lawn mower to the test to find out how it holds up to a few different tasks.

Most cordless lawn mowers take around 10-15 minutes to assemble, but this one took half that! Everything slotted together quickly and easily, with the machine fully put together in just five minutes.

Ryobi 18V ONE+ Cordless Lawnmower Assembly

My first impression of this lawn mower was that it felt a little plastic-y. It’s small and very compact too, making it feel almost like a toy than a tool! However, from its fully collapsible nature that makes storage so easy to its double lever handles, brushless motor, and taller rear wheels, this lawn mower’s clever design ensures that it’s taken seriously.

Run on one 18V battery, this lawn mower isn’t quite as powerful as some of the others that I tested. The battery takes about three hours to charge (it’ll be faster if you buy a fast charger) and gave me a runtime of about 15 minutes. I was using a 5aH, which Ryobi recommends. What I like to do though, is have two batteries and just swap them over when one runs out. Bear in mind this is an extremely budget friendly machine, so I think doubling up on batteries is a small price to pay.

Ryobi 18V ONE+ Cordless Lawnmower Battery

In terms of performance, this lawn mower gets the job done beautifully when working on grass that’s already quite short. However, take it onto long grass and it struggles to the point of overheating and cutting out. Long grass puts more of a strain on the battery too, so I wouldn’t recommend this lawn mower if you need to tackle an overgrown garden.

When it comes to manoeuvrability, this lawn mower excels. It’s extremely lightweight, coming in at just 7.7kg. As you can imagine, this means that it’s very easy to push the machine around, especially with the taller rear wheels helping to keep it stable on uneven ground. It tackles corners well and its size means that it can be worked one-handedly into small spaces.

Ryobi 18V ONE+ Cordless Lawnmower Maneouvarbility

Although I wasn’t a fan of the small 35-litre grass collection basket, I appreciated the machine’s mulching function. This enabled me to use the lawn mower without the basket, as the machine releases mulched grass back onto the lawn. I was also a fan of how adjustable this lawn mower is. From the five different handle heights to the five cutting heights, there’s plenty to choose from. Unfortunately, changing the cutting height requires the machine to be tipped on its side/back. This is a little inconvenient while also being quite unsafe.

Priced at the lower end of the scale, this is a lawn mower that will appeal to those who are on a budget. However, if you have a garden that’s larger than 150m² or consists of long grass, then this machine would struggle to give you value for your money as it simply wouldn’t be able to satisfactorily get the job done. The exception would be if you already own multiple Ryobi batteries as you’d be able to swap over once one runs empty.

On the other hand, if your garden is smaller than 150m² with a lawn that has already regularly been maintained, then the Ryobi 18V ONE+ Cordless Brushless Lawn Mower would be worth considering because of how lightweight and easy to use it is. It makes mowing a lawn feel almost effortless, which is always a good thing!

5. Murray Lithium-Ion 44cm Cordless Lawn Mower

best cordless lawn mower for large gardens

the best cordless lawn mower Murray Lithium Ion 44cm Cordless Lawn Mower
  • Very easy to assemble, taking less than 10 minutes
  • The 44cm cutting width is wider than many others, enabling you to work through your lawn much faster
  • Collapses down easily for storage
  • High-tech batteries display the exact percentage of remaining battery life while the LED indicator near the handles gives you a rough estimate. Both help you to plan your cut based on battery life
  • Has tall, 25cm rear wheels that make it feel sturdy and stable even on very rough ground
  • Offers seven cutting height settings. The highest (75mm) is longer than what is offered by many other lawn mowers, which is why it’s so good on long grass
  • Has three settings for the angle/positioning of the handle, which makes the lawn mower more comfortable to use

  • The 30-minute runtime is a little disappointing. This may not be enough to fully cover a larger garden
  • Grass cuttings are thrown out of the air vents in the collection basket
  • A mulching plug isn’t included in the box (although the mulching feature itself is a big pro!)

Murray Cordless Lawn Mower - Performance

Having used many Murray lawn mowers in the past, the brand’s reputation for quality is something that I can personally attest to. With these high expectations in mind, I put the Murray 2x18V Cordless Lawn Mower to the test to find out how it would fare on different types of lawn.

Assembling this lawn mower was simple and took less than 10 minutes. This was helped by the fact that the collection basket was already partly assembled, which is always a bonus!

Murray Lithium-Ion 44cm Cordless Lawn Mower Assembly

The design of this lawn mower is instantly impressive. It’s larger than many of the other cordless mowers out there, feels more robust, and looks high-quality. It’s fitted with a brushless motor, tall rear wheels, and is easily collapsible for storage. It also has an LED indicator near the handles, which you can press while you’re working to find out how much battery life you have left.

Speaking of, this machine’s Briggs and Stratton 36V motor is powered by two 18V batteries. Mine came with 5aH batteries, which took less than two hours to charge. They gave me a runtime of about half an hour, and I must admit, I was hoping for a little more. Considering the fact that this mower is designed for medium to large gardens, I would have expected to be able to use it for longer.

Murray Lithium-Ion 44cm Cordless Lawn Mower Battery

However, although I could only use it in 30-minute stretches, I was delighted with how this machine performed. It tackled both long and short grass with ease, leaving behind a very clean finish. My only gripe is down to the air vents in the collection box – if you’re mowing into the wind, you’ll probably end up with grass clippings in your face, as these come flying out of the air vents!

At 14kg, this machine is heavier than many of the other cordless lawn mowers out there. However, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, unless you happen to be pushing it up a steep hill! Instead, I found that its weight gave it a sturdiness that made it easily manoeuvrable, even on very uneven ground. It tackles sharp corners with ease too, with its tall rear wheels helping to keep it stable.

Murray Lithium-Ion 44cm Cordless Lawn Mower Performance

With a cutting width of 44cm and seven cutting heights to choose from, ranging from 25mm-75mm, this lawn mower outshines much of its competition when it comes to features too. There aren’t many other cordless lawn mowers out there that offer such a wide cut. This machine comes with a mulching function too, although the mulching plug that you need for this isn’t included in the box.

As you can imagine, all of these top-end features come at a price, setting this lawn mower at the pricier end of the scale. However, I would still say that the Murray 2x18V Cordless Lawn Mower offers good value, especially if you have a medium or large garden. Not only will its larger size enable you to get your grass cut so much faster, but its thoughtful design, high-tech features, and powerful motor are all well worth paying a little more for.

  • The foldable design makes it so easy to store the lawn mower in multiple ways
  • Battery life gives you 35 minutes of runtime, which is longer than what many other cordless lawn mowers offer
  • 34cm cutting width is ideal for small gardens
  • A powerful 40V machine, meaning that it motors through long grass and weeds well
  • Cuts edges neatly, meaning that an additional strimmer wouldn’t be required

Flymo has always been loved for its innovative lawn mowers, with the brand promising that the Flymo EasiStore 340R Li Cordless Rotary Lawn Mower is no exception. Designed for small gardens, I put this lawn mower to the test on a client’s very overgrown lawn.

Assembling this lawn mower took less than ten minutes, with the whole process being relatively straightforward. The instructions are clearly explained and easy to follow – something that’s always appreciated!

Flymo EasiStore 340R Li Cordless Rotary Lawn Mower Review - Assembly

The design of this lawn mower really stands out. As you can tell from its name, one of its biggest draws is how easy it is to store, and that certainly holds true. Whether you want to fold it down and tuck it under a table or stand it vertically on its nose, Flymo has ensured even those with the tiniest of gardens sheds, or no shed at all, can easily store this machine.

This lawn mower excels when it comes to power too. Running on two 20V batteries, its 40V motor far exceeds that of most other similar lawn mowers. Its runtime is a little longer too – it gives you about 30-40 minutes when used almost continuously, with the batteries then needing about four hours to fully charge back up.

Flymo EasiStore 340R Li Cordless Rotary Lawn Mower Review - Power

With so much power behind it, it’s hardly surprising that this lawn mower performed beautifully. It handled long and thick grass on bumpy ground with an ease that surprised me. Needless to say, it worked well on shorter, already-maintained grass too, leaving behind a clean and neat finish. The 35-litre collection box was always perfectly full each time I emptied it, and the machine didn’t clog once, even on longer grass.

Flymo EasiStore 340R Li Cordless Rotary Lawn Mower Review - Performance

With this lawn mower weighing just 11.2kg, it’s very lightweight. This is ideal if you have a garden with tight corners, steep banks, or uneven ground. Its dual levers enable you to use it ambidextrously, while the carry handle on the base unit makes it so convenient to lift the machine.

Flymo EasiStore 340R Li Cordless Rotary Lawn Mower Review - Manoeuvrability

In terms of features, this lawn mower provides all of the essentials. The three cutting height settings (20-60mm) can be adjusted by moving one single lever, and its 34cm cutting width is sufficient for a small garden. The 35-litre collection box was a little on the small side for me but, again, it’s all that you need for a small garden with short grass. The lawn mower cuts right up to edges too, doing away with the need for a strimmer. The only downside was its rear roller – it didn’t leave me with stripes on my lawn and might as well have not been there.

While that may be the case, I would still say that this lawn mower offers great value for money. It’s considerably cheaper than many of the other cordless lawn mowers out there, yet it’s significantly more powerful. It may not come with many exciting extra features but this can sometimes be a good thing, especially if you’re on a budget.

Flymo EasiStore 340R Li Cordless Rotary Lawn Mower Review - Design

If you have a small garden and need a simple but high-quality lawn mower that’ll munch through your grass quickly and neatly, while also being super storage-friendly, then the Flymo EasiStore 340R Li Cordless Rotary Lawn Mower would be a great buy.

  • Designed with Ergoflex handles that make the lawn mower very comfortable to use
  • Lightweight and designed in a compact nature, making it easy to manoeuvre
  • Cuts right up to edges, doing away with the need for a strimmer
  • Neatly and evenly powers through short grass, leaving a clean finish each time

  • Its lowest cutting height of 30mm won’t provide a short enough cut for some
  • The lawn mower feels flimsier than many of the other cordless lawn mowers on the market, so its long-term durability is doubtful
  • The provided 4aH battery only gives you 20 minutes of runtime
  • Struggles to cut long grass

Bosch CityMower Review - Performance

Bosch is a brand that’s loved for its high-quality and reliable garden tools, so I was excited to be putting the Bosch CityMower to the test. Since it is designed for gardens up to 300m², I designated two areas of lawn to try this machine out on; one with long, overgrown grass and one shorter clover section.

I’ve assembled a fair few lawn mowers over the years, and I found this one to be particularly fiddly. However, the whole process only took about 15 minutes in total, which isn’t too long!

Bosch Cordless Lawnmower CityMower on Thick Grass

The first thing that stands out about the design of this machine is its handles. Bosch claims that their Ergoflex design helps to reduce back and arm strain, although you do also have the option of using the more conventional horizontal bar handle. That, coupled with the lawn mower’s brushless motor, makes it seem like quite a capable machine.

This lawn mower is powered by an 18V battery. I used a 4aH, which provides a continuous runtime of around 20 minutes – a little less than some of the other cordless lawn mowers I tested. The battery then took around two hours to charge.

Bosch Cordless Lawnmower CityMower Power

I have to admit to being underwhelmed with this machine’s performance at first. It struggled to cut long grass, and the 31-litre collection box needed to be emptied very frequently. However, once I moved it over onto shorter grass, it got the job done beautifully. It neatly cut right up to the edges of my raised bed and dealt with this already-maintained section with ease. Its unique handles also made the mowing experience a much more comfortable one!

Bosch Cordless Lawnmower CityMower on Thick Grass Emptying Collection Box

That said, with a cutting height range of 30-60mm, its shortest cut is still pretty long. If you’re hoping to get rid of any daisies or buttercups that are peppering your lawn, then you’ll need a mower with a lower cutting height.

With all of this in mind, this lawn mower might be considered a bit pricey what it offers. However, if you already own other cordless Bosch products and are able to buy this lawn mower without a battery, then its price becomes much more reasonable.

Overall, this is a lawn mower that I would only recommend to people with very small gardens that already have short grass. When working in these conditions, the Bosch CityMower truly excels with its lightweight ease and comfort-driven design.

If you don’t fancy spending hours trying to put your new lawn mower together, the Kärcher 18v Lawn Mower LMO 18-33 is the best choice. This lawn mower is very easy to assemble in just a few minutes, and at just 11.3 kg, it can then be easily moved to the lawn for mowing. It’s been designed to tackle lawns up to 250m² in size.

There’s a 2 in 1 cutting system. Choose to either collect the clippings in the 35 L grass box, or distribute them back onto the lawn using the mulching plug.

Kärcher-LMO-18-33-18-Volt-Cordless-Lawn-Mower-Review-features-2

The 33 cm cutting width ensures it’s agile around obstacles and flower beds, while there’s 4 cutting height positions to choose from, ranging from 35 mm to 65 mm. It’s worth mentioning that the 35 mm minimum cutting height may be too long for some people’s preferences, so if you prefer a shorter cut, you may want a different model.

Kärcher-LMO-18-33-18-Volt-Cordless-Lawn-Mower-Review-manoeuvrability

Another thing to note is that the battery doesn’t come included. If this mower seems cheaper than other cordless models, that’s why! Purchasing the battery will add a fair amount to the price of the mower.

While it performs well in long grass, the blades do get clogged up quickly with grass if the lawn is particularly thick.

Finally, this mower can be folded and stored away in compact areas. All in all, this mower is the best on the market if you value simple usage and a quick assembly.

We tested a wide range of the best cordless lawn mowers out there to give you a comprehensive review of the best product for your needs. Whether that’s to get around tight corners, to quickly mow your large lawn, or to give you the best bang for your buck. We assessed each model’s design, power, performance, manoeuvrability, additional features, and safety to form our review. Here’s how we tested each:

  • Design: To find the mower that sat in our top spot for design, we first assessed the ease of assembly by timing how long it took to assemble and the clarity of the instruction manual given. Those that took less than 10 minutes and could be assembled with ease were given the best ratings. We also examined the mowers’ ergonomic designs, build quality, and overall construction to evaluate their durability.
  • Power: When considering each mower’s power, battery size, voltage, and run-time were all vital. High-tech batteries that displayed the remaining battery life, models that came with multiple batteries, and batteries that ran for longer than 30 minutes were given high ratings, as these significantly reduce the time the average gardener has to spend on mowing their lawn. Some mowers were equipped with intelligent battery management systems that adjusted the power according to the conditions – these were, of course, given top marks for their ingenuity.
  • Cutting Performance: We tested each mower on different terrains, grass lengths, and garden sizes to identify their cutting performance. We also considered each mower’s speed, ability to tackle tricky terrain, and cutting width. Models with a cutting width of between 30 and 42 cm were given the best ratings, as these models were more suitable for the average garden size and user requirements.
  • Manoeuvrability: Handling and control were a big factor when it came to manoeuvrability. We tested the ease of handling and control, evaluating the mower’s responsiveness when pushed in various directions. We also used the mower around various obstacles to identify whether it could still perform well when faced with trees, flower beds, and tight corners.
  • Additional Features: A range of cutting heights is an essential feature, so those with the widest range from 20 – 70 mm took the top spot for this aspect of performance. A large collection box or bag of around 50 L was also handier for the average user, so these models got higher marks, particularly if they were still easy to remove. Extra features like edge combs, mulching plugs, and the option to store vertically were given the best marks, as these offered more value for money and a smarter design.
  • Safety: We inspected each mower for blade safety features, such as automatic shut-off mechanisms and safety interlocks. We checked the handle design for safety and comfort, particularly focusing on user grip and control, and we tested each model when tipped to ensure they were still safe to operate. Lawn mowers that passed these tests were given the best ratings, whereas those that didn’t were given the worst ratings in terms of safety.

We matched each model’s combination of overall effectiveness against its price point to identify where they stand in terms of value for money. Mowers which offered more while sticking to a reasonable price that most households could afford were given the best value for money ratings.

Derek's Smart Buying Tips

  1. One of the most important things to consider is the battery life. Cordless mowers are best suited to small / medium gardens, but you should ensure the battery life is long enough for you to mow your entire garden. Some mowers come with an extra battery included which can give you some added reassurance.
  2. If you’ve got a larger garden, choose a lawn mower with a wider cutting width. This will allow you to mow open stretches of lawn in fewer passes, improving the efficiency. If you’ve got lots of obstacles or narrow pathways in your garden, a narrower cutting width is more practical.
  3. For small to medium size gardens, opt for a cutting width of between 30 cm and 42 cm.
  4. The best cordless lawn mower will have a range of cutting heights. Look for a maximum cutting height of 70 mm, and a minimum of 20 mm. This will be suitable for most conditions.
  5. Extra features to look out for include a mulching plug, edge combs and the ability to be stored vertically.
